So I've been searching for a decent 1/5th scale monster truck online and there hasn't really been anything that has interested me. Problem with most rcs at this size is they just don't have the ground clearance effectively making them buggies with larger wheels and I've decided I wanted to try and do something different. Something no one has tried before. Now I did already have a Baja 5b, if you guys follow the 5th scale obsession group on Facebook you probably have already seen it a few times as I'm fairly active there but if you haven't here's the before photo

now I've done plenty of research and pretty much tried to cover all angles before committing money towards an upgrade like this. I wanted to make SURE I wasn't wasting money and time into another failed project so I've gotten in touch with the people at KingMotorsRC "I know its taboo to say that name", Largescalerc, and OBR whom was able to give me advice on what parts to get such as steering and suspension reinforcement. So I present to you my "unfinished" project which I shall nickname it "The Crushinator"

I think it has come out absolutely fantastic and I don't have a single complaint about it other then the fact that its 2wd drive but eh nothing you can really do about that.
I'm seriously trying to get a hold of the people who make these things to sell a kit like this. It's honestly the best 5th scale rc I have ever seen.

I've painted all up the body and did some more suspension tuning after testing. Found out that the rear shocks stock shock oil couldn't take the extra weight for some reason and started leaking so I put 35 weight Losi shock oil inside and has held up greatly. One thing I can say about these wheels is that the compound might be a bit too soft. I noticed after a few street passes that there are very small amounts of wear in the shape of cracks on the sides of the treads but nothing to be too concerned about, just keep it off the street and sharp rocks is all.

Lastly the stock steering setup just doesn't cut it. My best steering angle is probably 25 degrees. I've ordered a symmetrical steering setup and a 70kg servo. I'm not sure servos go any higher so I'm HOPING it'll work. Being that the Raminator has 2 55kg servos and it can steer those massive tires I have high Hope's this will work.

Installed extended wheel hubs added about an inch per side to extend the wheelbase just a little bit. Felt like the wheels were a bit close to the body so this helped it.

Wheelbase is now 22"w and 30"L from end to end also found a way to permanently mount the rear wing. It kinda clips into the plastic in the back with the help of 2 zip ties.

Decided to upgrade the top end of my 26cc engine, needed a bit more torque and didnt want to gear it down. Painted to match the body

unfortunately the chassis wouldn't fit so I had to loose a bar. Not a big deal to be honest.

also I noticed the steering kit was installed wrong in the last pic, heres a little tip for you. If you purchase this kit, use a micrometer to make both sides the same length. You can use a t square to make sure its straight.

Wont be able to run it in until the weekend. Still am in the middle of overhauling it and don't have the diff oil in yet also the servo is taking forever to come in, what's on there right now is a 15kg servo and tbh it works ok with the sym-steer. The only complaint I have with it is I needed to remove the nut nearest to the chassis because it binds with the top plate when the suspension flexes.

Welcome bud??
When you did the topend kit on your engine did you rebuild the bottom end? Reason I ask is because it looks like your crank seals are leaking in the pic.?
Rebuilt the whole thing with new seals. Nothing leaking. Forgot to mention I was gonna buy OBR but the 30.5cc upgrade was discounted to $20 so I couldn't resist. Did a slight port job and polish on it. Not too much meat taken from the engine just enough to make it a bit more responsive and balanced/trued the crankshaft. Wound up with a .5 squish so guess I'll have to watch it when I run it under load for the first time so that I don't blow the engine. Run it on 35:1 fuel synthetic blend 93 Octane. Ran it on my buddies makeshift dyno. Forgot ontop of my head what torque numbers it had but at 20,000RPM it sat at 6.5hp at the clutch consistantly.

Oh god. I just realized I made a mistake with my last post. Not 6.5hp its 4.5hp. I couldn't imagine this engine running that much compression. Would end up grenading.

Doing a bit of a run in now. I wont be using the mt tires to break in the engine. Now if only I could avoid fences. Video URL

Even know I'm not done with this project yet im wondering if I should do a vekta monster truck project.

Actually. Is there anyone in the "Middlesex" NJ area who owns a vekta? I'd lite to see what it looks like with my wheels before I go hambonie
