I just got my OBR engine with the TR pull start on it. After 3 pulls, it appears the spring broke inside. I would assume it was a manufacturing defect and not TR's fault. Has anyone have any experience with this unit? Should I get it repaired or look for something else?

Both you may want to go to a doctor for your one big arm that broke the spring in side
You probably over pulled the rope by pulling to far you can tell if you pick car up off ground

lol. I wish that was the case. Since the rope is longer than a stock, I doubt I pulled it too far, since I haven't broken a stock spring yet. I talked to Dave at TR. He said it happens and is willing to work with me. I have to send it back for repairs. I hate being without my car, especially when I have a new engine to break in.

Gonna give TR a second chance. I can't see so many people being such a big fan of them having low end products. Plus, the fact they are made and sold here, in the US, makes it another reason to buy from them.

I run TR pull start on both my rigs, when I rebuild them, I put some carbon dust or a good dry lube on the recoil spring, spool & cable. Keeps things moving smooth & more run time in between rebuild. Hope that helps, good luck. Love my TR v2 pull starters.

I have bought the clone version by FID Racing...It too is the better part of $100, so I will report back with a review. Most complaints with the V2 Turtle unit has to do with the dog cage coming loose or pawls sticking. I am fed up with stockers wearing out alloy pawls and flywheel starter cups, curious how this design holds up. I have been through 2 pull starts, 3 alloy pawls, and 2 flywheels in just 2 seasons of running....seems excessive, no?

Dear Members,
I purchased the $119.00 turtle v2 pull start. The coil spring under the plastic cog failed after a total of 20 pulls. I purchased 2 coil springs and upgraded the cog with an aluminum one. Once installed I had one run before the motor just stopped, the pull start was binding the fly wheel. I removed the spark plug and pull the starter to free it.
I know It's just a matter of time before it completely fails. The eching on the cover is nice but that's about it. The people at turtle should recall this pull start and go back to the drawing board.

Is this normal wear on drive dogs was new never in mud only ran for about 40 mins on lake on ice never seen dirt yet and everything stayed tight but noticed the wear as i pulled pullstart casing to install emergency kill switch16152490333123320116792783088186.jpg

No that's not normal. The dogs weren't retracting the whole way.
How do they retract when spring pulls them in to center. Theirs no resistance on dogs cause have bearing style the good bearings only resistance is the springs pulling them to center

The springs are pretty strong on both sets for the motor to pull outa the way

Dear Jhp,
Use the stock cog and your problem will disappear.

It came with truck

Thanks ill have to check that out
I collected a numerous supply of broken rope pull starters.
The high compression would lockup the piston depending on it's position in the cylinder.
I just never had good luck with rope pull starts.
I tried all difference ways of starting the motor, but all it would take is one vapor lock to break the rope.
I know there lots of people experiencing this issue.
