hi anyone know who and when the first production large scale petrol rc car was made was it the marder as thats the only one i can think was about when i first started with rc cars when i was about 14/15 i remember marders but want to know the first as this would help in the clone debate as all others followed i know hpi and mcd are not that old but theres also harm hurrax elcon contrast tecnokit ect pics of the very early ones would be great just to see how far they have come

I know the guys at Rossendale Models were pushing the 1/4 scale cars in the early 90's but they didnt take off so 1/5th & 1/6th were the next best thing. These were slightly more affordable to the masses & the market slowly built up. They set up a track near the local rugby club & held a round of the British Championships there if I remember right. Not sure what cars they were running then tho but Im sure they have had dealings with FG for years so maybe the Marder was one of the 1st

just been looking on fg modelsports history on there site they started development on the marder in 1990 and was released in 1991 the beetle in 1992 maybe they were the first then

you need to go way back from any you know:clown:

i had a Raco jac rabbit in the mid 80's but was way to big to run any where

Raco started out in the mid 80's and was founded by Jon Rahe with a local silent partner. They operated out of Santa Ana, California. They took the hobby by storm with their introduction of the Jac Rabbit. An offroad buggy that was fast and affordable. Unfortunately, Raco is no longer in business. I believe they shut down around 1997. Raco did sell their rights to the original sidewinder with the straight axle to Danny's Quarterscale in 1994
