Hiya.

I've just bought me a Genius XR2 to have a dabble at on road racing next year. Quite probably in the Wombwell championship instead of the BRCA, and certainly in the GTS class!

The car was a roller and I've got lots of stuff still to get. But one thing I did get was some bargain ( I thought) tyres for the first outing, setting it up etc.

The tyres were mounted on white wheels and fit the square drive no problem. The offset is OK also.

Problem is they seem too large diameter and well heavy.

They are GRP Gandini S pattern with the product code 2W11KA.

They are 129mm diameter and weigh a good 100g each more than some old GRP tyres/wheels that came with the car, which were 119mm diameter.

I have looked on the GRP website and can find similar looking wheels but with the product code GW11KA. And the spec for these states 119mm diameter like the old ones I have.

Are there different sizes of 1/5 touring car wheels?

I was just looking for some cheap sets for the first few runs.

Cheers

There is no such thing as "cheap" tyres. A good place to start is by looking at RCTek.com at thats where loads of wombwell racers go.

Hiya.

I go to Wombwell, next time will be 18th Nov, and will ask the question there if I don't get the answer beforehand.

I have signed up to RC Tek but my account hasn't been activated, some 3 or 4 weeks now.

When I go racing with the Genius proper, probably not until March next year I will get the tyres directly from Total or Rapid Racing, not a problem.

But I just wanted a set or two to rag around a large car park, checking the car out etc.

These tyres I bought were £25 a set, so only a small saving. But they don't seem right. I wasn't aware of any different sizes and the shop is saying that they are OK, and there is only one size touring car wheel.

And yet I have two different sizes and with hugely different weights.

I'm not going to use them, I will send them back. But I just want to know why they are different.

If it helps it says they are FG wheels on the box.

FG did larger rims for the Porsche so thats maybe what you've got. Running a car on a carpark is nothing like running on a track - fact is, they're a million miles apart. The car you have really is a track car and needs to be on a track to get the best out of it, another good place to join is Halifax because you can use the car there any time you like pretty much.

GRP and PMT are the tyres of choice at the moment and are available from both shops you mentioned.
