I tried a set of si3n4 in a saw I built. The flywheel side held up great. Not so much on the clutch side. Just didnt like all the load I guess. Kinda bummed me out permanently on them. This was quite a few years ago.
Ceramic don't thermally expand under heat *as much* as steel.thus less drag and less likely for berring failure
They are also harder and smoother, generating a lower co efficient of friction. Which = smoother operation. The down side is they don't like shock loads.
