I need a new steering servo (FG MT)but can't find the part # for a replacement. What's the best servo for it? Thanks.

There are several considerations.
1. Not all servos are the SAME SIZE. When you decide on the servo, check that the servo / radio plate you have can be mounted.
2. If you want better steering response, it might not be the servo, but the mount itself. Alloy / carbon fibre upgrades are favourites, but the radio plate mount can be reinforced with extra mount posts without replacement - this helps the brakes as well.
3. I prefer Multiplex Rhinos - best around for power, reliability - and looks. No more boring grey or black, but bright red and alloy - show appeal.
4. I touched power. One I have I use a LiPo battery, for which I have a 6V voltage regulator. Some servos are simply rated at faster / more powerful as you increase the voltage, and are specifically made to handle the often 8.4V of LiPo when fully charged. Rhinos CANNOT.
5. Another is the 'standard' (read small by Large Scale standards!) Hitec 5755 I think, which is simply sensational.
Both the Rhino and the 5755 are expensive - $100 each is a typical GOOD price to purchase new, and the Rhino is no longer available in USA, only Europe (and perhaps the Far East?)

Most people upgrade to alloy engine mounts as a priority, then start looking at other parts, like spur / pinion gears, brakes, servo mounts, ....... even hydraulic or pneumatic brakes ..... HOW BIG IS YOUR BUDGET, quite simply? !!

Ok thanks...mine just died...Ran it one week and put it away and the next week it was dead. Also how do I get to the servo? Thanks.

If you've little experience in these things, then if you've a local hobby store (LHS) take it down there and ask them to advise you - they don't have to do it. It's better you do, as it's good experience.
It's not difficult really.
You need to disconnect the servo from the receiver in the receiver box, remove the screws holding the arms to the servo saver - which can be accessed through holes 'strategically positioned' in the alloy chassis, remove the throttle / brake rod from it's servo, then remove the servo tray.

It sounds long-winded, but it isn't.

Simply reverse the process to install.

Take photos / label / number if necessary.

Have fun.

7955 is a standard size servo used for throttle/brake not steering. best steering servo in my opinion is the hitec 5755mg. ive been using one in my FG MT until I swapped it and now use one in my FG baja and its never missed a beat.

plus 1 on this i think it was you who recomended to me that this was a good servo mate it is no problems so far very strong output shaft its quick not over priced so yes i would also recomend the hitec 5755 as a bonus it also comes with the alloy arm nice

depending how old your FG is will depend what stock steering servo it came with.

Earlier models came with Hitec 805BB which was crap! Later models came with TowerPro 8705 i think it is which is a much better servo. Lasted me a while, when that fried i went to the 5755 and never looked back.

Check out FG's new Sportsline / Evo posts in the Touring section.
7955's are indeed 'standard' sized but are VERY torquey.
Not sure where the 5755 = Rhino comes from as I've read before that the Rhino's got 3 bearings, the 5755 only 2 ... story can go on I suppose (please read on before reacting !!).

I agree the use of a smaller standard is off-putting, but FG can't be that wrong surely? ... ??

I must be a tart for the bright red of the Rhino anyway, as that's my only steering choice.

If you're certain you're not going to get the servo wet, and you need serious torque and perhaps can accept a slower reaction speed / time, then I've a Tonegawa for sale ... :D:D
I never installed it on my MT for that reason - it's got open ventilation slots and could easily get the servo fried.

Bottom line, there's plenty of choice out there.
I, like many other LSF people love the Rhinos.
FG seem to want to try the 7955 - perhaps it's sponsorship, I don't know, or simply a bit of basic marketing.
As mentioned just above, many do go for the 5755 and love them - can't knock that.

Check out the dimensions before you make the selection, to see that whatever you select will fit the servo / radio plate you have. Check Tower Hobbies or Hobbythek for dimensions - both sites always give good technical specs.

strange indeed because the radio tray will need to be altered to house a 7955 as a steering servo.

i just ordered a 7955 from hobbycity as my throttle/brake servo as I want to do front discs in a few months and will need the torque.

the 7955 is more expensive that the 5755 so not sure why FG want to use this as a steering servo.

Yeah Sohan.
Take a look in the Touring car section in something like 'new 2010 FG Evo' or something.
There's one chassis with 4 (FOUR !!) 7955's.
They're 'titanium geared', etc., and when you read the specs., it looks a bit scary!!
Don't know what differences there really are with the 5755 and Rhino, but many say BE VERY CAREFUL with the voltage supply to the Rhino.
I've got a LiPo on my MT with an LRP voltage stabiliser to ensure feed is 6V, plus it's also got a by-pass, giving direct power to the servos, and signal to the Rx, as I'm steering with twin Rhinos - wott, but why not? !! :D:D:D

Finally got around to taking the servo out. What was in there was a Futaba S5302, so i guess someone replaced the new one already.

must have, go to hobbyking.com and punch in S5302 and it will give you the specs, im sure its a 1/4 scale servo, if im correct you will need to replace with 1/4 scale servo.

as mentioned above the best value for money 1/4 scale servo and the most reliable one ive ever used is the HS5755MG.

the 7955TG is an excellent standard sized servo and ive just ordered one so I can run front disc brakes but you don't want that for your steering as your radio tray will need to be modified.

Yeah I looked it up already and it has 236 0z.-in.@6V and yes it is 1/4 scale. It did a good job until it took a dump.
