4wd is just too easy. I like the challenge of 2wd and it feels more realistic. I also find that because of the 4wd tires wear faster because I can just power out of danger so I toss it around more. dirt racing 4wd all the way, pavement 2wd. and I have let most of the guys at our meets run my rally and they feel the same.

2wd is ok on high bite surfaces but the surfaces we run on around here are low traction , unprepared surfaces without 4wd you would not be able to get around the track without spining out. I prefer 4wd for our track surfaces.

we run on an old parking lot with ruts and repairs as well. it just takes a little throttle control. the 4wd I find you are on throttle more around corners rather than coasting like the 2wd. to each his own, but I think our group will be diehard 2wd'ers... I use the f1 to clean the pebbles. you can hear it doing the street sweeping as the front spoiler knocks the rocks away haha

ive driven barry's rally, i have to agree. 4wd is great in an overpowered 1/10 scale car, however i find that a properly set up 2wd with the right tires is far more fun. myself, i got into 1/5 scale for a challenge and something different, my sportsline 2wd is a huge challenge, i tried 4wd and was bored after 5 laps.

.............Well like Pipe said to each his own. But Sharkey with more and more powerful modified 1/5 scale motors coming on the market it won't be that long before we have overpowered 1/5 scale cars too  Boy oh Boy !!!:w00t: I guess I am use to running 4wd because I raced 1/8 scale 4wd onroad cars for years. We race very aggressively with alot of fender rubbing and bumping. I enjoy going into the corners carrying alot of speed braking late and kinda sliding the rear end a little bit thru the turn.

what are you talking about??? 1/8 and 1/10 is all about point and shoot!
sorry, no offence to anyone, but it is true.
I am also a big on-road 1/5 scale 2 wheel drive and I have seen how the 1/8 and 1/10 scale car drive. Not to mention that they run on foam tires.
I don't have a big interest on the 1/5 4x4 version. Like Sharky said, there is nothing like driving a 2wheel drive 1/5 scale.

well I have a 27cc in mine with a jet pro and managed to nearly burn a set of tires off in one day sliding the ass end around... at $150 a day I can buy another really nice 1/5 in just a few meetings. then I decided to put crap tires on to drift. this weekend I put marder tires on the rally and let a buddy do some jumps and rip it up in the dirt. now we're talking. it cornered better than any of the actual off roaders...

we already have overpowered 1/5 scale onroads. i run a cy26 with a meilke side power pipe in my sportsline, its got too much torque. yea 4wd would be handy to put the power down, but why? the problem with going to a big motor is a decrease in rpm and the power band is moved way down, so to combat that you need taller gearing to get the speed back, then you have lost the bottom end and its hard on clutches. bigger just isnt always the answer, a nicely built 23cc will be more than enough power in any onroad car.

ive got a nitro tc3 (1/10 scale touring car) with a rossi .21, the thing will dam near hit 80mph (roughly 130km/h), i cant throw enough gear at it, thing is after 5 laps i pull off the track cause at that point im bored.

and as for late braking and sliding through the corner, its possible 2wd. i was doing it the whole last time i ran the car. we had a large sweeper at the end of the straight, was hitting the corner with a lot of speed, slight tap of the brakes and back on the throttle and the car would slide right around the corner. the key is just to drive smooth and you can make a 2wd do almost anything a 4wd can

................Luis R what are you talking about ?? 1/5 scale 2wd is all point and spin out. I don't believe you have ever driven a 1/8 scale 4wd or else you would not make that statment. You better have your 1/8 & 1/10 scale car set up properly and have good reflex and driving skills and be smooth or you are in the wall . You are entitled to your opinion about 1/8 scale but I disagree. And for the surfaces we are running on 4 wd works better.

Sharkey where did I say anything about a biggg motor?? 26cc-27cc modified only. And the key word is almost do anything a 4wd can.

i don't klnow, this post hasnt been active in a month, ive forgotten most of it.

going from a 23 to a 26, and then to a 27 is a big change. running against guys with a 23 they keep pulling where my 26 falls off, and nobody is hitting full throttle till at least half way down the straight. barry (pipeous) used to have a redcat rally with a 27 in was slower than any of the smaller motors. all you really get with a big motor is a lot of torque.
