Hi

Recently obtained a pair of alloy rear uprights/hubs for Marder 2WD. having done a little more research into additional small parts to attach these things with I discovered that these same hubs could be obtained in a raised version. Could someone explain the point of raised hubs and will the supposedly unraised ones that I have fit on my Marder.

Also what is the point of raised diff mounts? How do you benefit from installing these upgrades?

If installing raised hubs should it go to follow that you should install raised diff mounts also.

Thanks

the raised uprights were for cars that used diff risers they lift the drive train about 1/2 inch so the ball drive shaft covers don't hit the arm ..... no biggie use them wont hurt any thing

Hi levi133

Thanks for that, I guess the next question is why have an adjustable diff? Also how often are drive shaft covers used? I have other nitro cars of various manufacture and I don't think a single one of them has any drive shaft boot on them.

U don't really need them unless U are running the ball drives ,the ball drives have grease in them so its to keep the dirt and grease separate..

I agree with Levi. Just make sure you clean the grit out of the cups as part of your clean down when you have finished bashing.

if you look on the bottom of your chassis, you see a plastic cover over the dif gear. dif risers lift that gear up inside the chassis. it's used more often with on roads. the riser lowers the chassis and weight. the other uprights with the swooped extenders change the suspension geometry to try and keep the most contact patch of the tire on the ground when lots of travel is going on

Hi

Thanks for that, all understood now, my initial thoughts were that it had to effectively lower the chassis. Can't see the point in my case, always off road anyway. I take it that there must be a conversion to universal joints of some description if I wanted to change from ball drive.

it's a tough call. I ran risers on a marder. I liked the gear being up and away. cracked a few of those plastic gear covers. I looked on the 4wd baja I just bought thinking dam I don't have any of those covers left in the parts box but they changed the 4wd design and raised things.

going from ball drives to dogbones is just a simple plug and unplug the parts routine. nothing special other than the parts needed

I agree. the ball drives are too nice to lose. zero play in the drivetrain with them, where dogbone axles always have to give a little before contact when throttle or brake is applied. some people feel they aren't good for offroad, but I can't comment as I used them in on roads.

I use them on my drag truck that can go from 0-77mph in 4.3sec
now i have cracked the wheel hub or the diff hub but they were not new
when i got them so things do break but i will never switch back to dog bones

NO WAY NO HOW elcon makes a stronger set I have the axles itself just need the drives keep them just keep them clean, and greased

The plastic gear covers come in alloy too. I have an alloy one on my marder. talking about things close to the gear, I have recently obtained what I think is called a diff key. Its a triangular shaped piece of plastic with two holes in it. I,m told its to stop large stones getting under diff cover but I cannot find any corresponding holes in chassis to enable me to mount it. Any Ideas?

check out the tips and tricks thread in the fg mt section. btb does a silicone mod that is one of the best things you could ever doI put vaseline on the dif case and the gear and filled the area right up. no more rocks under the case after that.

and yup I want that alloy gear cover... eventually the baja ill get ball drives all around but need other things first, semi needs ball drives but it's all nutech so that means replacing all the inner gears too
