i,ve got a shengqi baja , the buggy itself is good but they are put together bad and need to be striped down from new a built back up ,mine had no oil in the diff and loads of bolts were hand tight, go for the king motor they seem well sorted now but still check everything over,as for clones being cheap copies i don,t think so anymore k,m and rovan are getting better all the time, people will say get a 2nd hand hpi baja off ebay or the likes, but you can get your fingers burnt as we have seen on this forum.

cheers for the replys is the kingmotor better quality worth the extra cash as the sq buggy now comes with 2.4 radio with this tuned pipe for the same price as the standard kingmotor http://www.nitrotek.co.uk/tuned-aluminium-upgraded-exhaust-for-1-5th-baja-buggy.html and i will be stripping it down before i start regardless.

aslong as you strip it check the diff for oil, change the shock oil for a lighter weight, sort the spur gear mesh wich is allways a bit tight from new you,ll be ok, the sq comes with a dzy motor which is better than the k,m motor i had 12months bashing out of my dzy 23cc it never missed a beat, if it still comes with the k,n style air filter bin it and get an hpi or k,m foam filter, the exhaust is a copy of the dominator but they work well and sound good,

i've just received the shengqi baja - and for the price - i've gotta say i'm impressed. and i'll say this now to get it out of the way, i took it around to a friends who has the baja 5b, and parts-wise: there's no difference... by this i mean quality of the plastics, they all look and feel the same, each part is identical and no less flimsy than the HPI's. it came with 2.4GHz radio too which was a pleasant suprise :) and the instruction manual is terrific!!! really indepth.

while i've been waiting for it to be delivered (which has taken a lifetime thanks to shipping!) i've been getting a few upgrade bits n bobs to fit. here's the list:

Proline Bow Tie wheel/tyre set
Proline undertray
Tuned pipe (which is found on the SS models i think??)
Zenoah 29cc block kit
a decent battery (4600)
there's a few more bits like onroad tyre/wheel set, rear paddle tyres/wheels, snow skis (may aswell make the most of the weather while we can eh..), led lights too.. i also got the top roll bar found on the 5T that fits to the rollcage, makes a good carry handle and gives the spark plug lead a more solid state of protection :) when i see in action i'll decide whether to fit better servo's too, such as hitec if needs be.

i've started to strip it down to fit the parts and check everything, and so far it's all tight, nothing loose....as yet. it's worth doing that for every model in my view, one - it helps you get to know the model, and two - peace of mind that it's all as it should be. i had a savage years ago and i was astounded by how poorly assembled it was, i'm sure it was just a "one-off", anyway i was quite peeved to say the least, shoddy. however, when it was put right it was fun, until it broke :( all in all, i feel the shengqi's worth the £335, it certainly looks better in the flesh anyway.

just remember to check the diff for oil mine had none and no grub screws to keep it in, new diff inners are £30 and its a pain of a job, but i had to do it after a week of owning a new sq baja, i changed the whole diff now to a ss one with alloy casings, owning a clone baja is a big learning curve:lol:

If i was you i'd start to up-grade with parts that will make it stronger than on Tyres and undertray, you'll soon find out what i'm on about if you bash hard.
what i'd go for first would be a: chassis brace, decent servos, 6mm shock shafts, shock limiters, outwares, lots more to add that i'm sure.

You'll need most pretty soon if the cheap servos it comes with give up, AAARRGGGH runaway.....:w00t:

I got the Alloy version KM and have so far almost changed the whole car since i've had it.

well i pressed the buy now button on one £354 inc postage.i fly trex 700 le flybarless rc nitro helicopters but don't fly winter time so this will be a nice change. i have had a fg marder some years ago also last year had a hpi e savage and years ago nitro cars which spent more time stopped then going but i love real engines.gonna use a odourless fuel so i can work on the car indoors heres a link to the fuel http://www.aaoil.co.uk/environment-Aspen-4T-alkylate-petrol cheers.

thanks chaps - i'm about to operate on the diff this evening, and i would go down the route of saying there's a lack of oil inside... infact i'll put money on it LOL.. sounds a bit harsh when i turn the axle :-/ even though it's brand new and tight, my FG's never made that harsh sound.

i have a pair of hitec servo's to one side, gonna experiment with these TQ ones to start off with while i run the car in.

bashing-wise, i don't go out to thrash the car everywhere, when i use them 9/10 they're on the track we have, they take a good enough pummelling on there. then again, i know a few people who do this no limits rc....strewth, that's bashing to the extreme, and quite literally too, those poor cars! i'd cry if i missjudged a jump and it came bouncing down to earth at the wrong angle ;( no matter what car, there'd be bits everywhere!

yea run the t,q servo,s untill they pack in i got 6months out of my standard ones, if you,ve got the diff out pack it with grease instead of oil i,ve been using lithium grease in my diff for 12months without any problems.

well bugger me, after all that of getting the diff out - it was already greased, HA! quite well done too. i had hold of the diff for a good hour turning it by hand, seems to have improved things i hope. now i've reassembled the buggy, it sounds much better when i turn the wheels by hand, smoother too :)
it was good to get it all in bits to be honest, a few more parts to remove compared to the removal of an FG's diff, but otherwise enjoyable amd i'm glad i did it.
been adding a few decals to the bodyshell, it's looking good. will post up a pic 2moro when i get chance!
thanks pablo

its good to hear they put some grease in the diff think they must have forgot with mine lol, my sq is allmost all hpi parts now and some k,m bits which are as good quality as hpi, i,am fitting a zenoah g230 with a dom pipe this week ready for deeside this sunday,

just been trying to put on a few pix of the car but their file size are too big, not being the best at computing, anyone know how to compress each file down?
