With the bad weather again this year the bread knife wants a 4x4 but doesn't want to lose any performance compared to the 200bhp zafira she driving now so I showed her a 2005 S4 4.2 V8 Avant & she loved it :w00t: She only does approx 4k miles a yr so a high miler wouldnt be a problem - I assume the V8 will take big miles anyway providing its been serviced on time. I read they are hard on front tyre and they drink more than me :w00t: but again due to her low annual mileage this wont be a major problem. Are there any points I should look out for?

I wanted a scooby sti but this will be a nice compromise :cool2:

Wish I had the experience to be able to tell you !!!
Nice choice, just check the road tests, remembering they're the opinions of individuals and look out for common 'faults' - should highlight them.

A little more classy than the Scooby I suppose, 'though I wouldn't say no if somebody kicked me where it hurts and gave me the keys to one :lol:

i had a older a4 2.6 v6 quattro it was ok handling was good but loved petrol even driving it like a vicar with 12 points but be prepair to bend over and be raped if it ever goes wrong and you need to go direct to audi quattros and the s lines all have unique parts that have to be ordered i had knightmares coil springs are prone to breaking and i had the rear diff go and gear box but mine was a 96 plate so secondhands the way as for the subaru cheaper easy to get parts more fun power sound awsome with a pipe not to bad to work on loads of tuning parts outthere

She's dead against a subaru mate.......Ive tried everything :( From what I have read the S4's are fairly reliable tho. Will have a look at plenty 1st & do my homework!

Now i like the S4 but as Renbar has stated, if it goes wrong be prepared to remorgage the house.
I too had the A4 and it cost me fortune to put right.

Whats the Road Tax on it, it may be the under bracket and could cost you £400 per year, a lot for someone who only does 4k a year, i sold my MG ZT because of that.

All said and done, i do like them over the Scooby.

Don't fall into the trap that German means reliability, it does not, my own experiences. Tax, fuel, servicing parts etc. are all top dollar and is it worth it for 4K a year?

I would be looking at the Subaru Legacy Spec B. Flat six, 4wd, space and proven reliability. Goes like stink and in the real world is not that far off the Quattro minus the expense.

my bro, jon got a rs6 audi he never got stuck in the snow , before he had the rs he had a s6 but the gearbox went pop and it was an arm and a leg for a replacment auto box try to get a manual if yea can.

Road tax before March 2006 is £245 same as the Zafira we have now so no change there (reg'd after that is £400+) and we are only getting 25mpg out of it so no major difference in fuel. It has to be the avant for the dog as well!

I quite like them but she wont have a Subaru of any shape or form mate! As above tax & fuel wont be that much different to what she driving now. My mate works at a BMW garage and he does our servicing for next to nowt so not a major problem there either. If something big does go it will cost but you take that chance with any car. As with the zafira, she will use it for running the 3 kids around during the week then it is family transport for 5 plus the dog at weekends. Ive put 90k on my work car in less than 3yrs and will be running that into the ground before I change it so this will be a nice car to have for all occasions :D

I read up on the gearbox options and it would def be manual. Its more involving to drive with a manual anyway. I have driven my mates Maz with paddles & it was too much like a playstation for me! Give me manual any day :D

Wife had an s4convertable v8 awesome machine and a fantastic sound
We contract for 2 years.
Just got the new s5 supercharged v6 just as quick but not such a great noise

one of my mates got a 5 series alpina b10 4.6 v8 electric everything and double glazzing its limited to 186 mph and you can feel the wourld spin when he floors it

Got to admit, in a previous life, I was cruising down around Windsor in the XKR I had - 10 years' ago - and got surprised, then left for dead by a V8 M5 - wasn't worth trying as the licence was too important !!
