I uncovered a problem last night on my KM when I removed the roll cage for the new radio install. I seemingly twisted off the two front screws that hold the cage on. It's my fault really because I replaced the screws recently with 8-32 thread stainless screws and used a little loctite on the screws. I'm a gun nut too so I didn't use red loctite, I instead used blue...the removeable kind. The rear screws came out easy the front just twisted off lilke nothing. One is sheared off flush and the other has a little stub that may be gripped and removed by a vise grip with the aid of a propane torch. The other will require careful drilling and an Easy Out with heat as well. Once removed I will re-tap the holes exactly 8-32 and eliminate the problem.:cursing::oops:

Does RTR me ready to run or ready to rebuild? I got the roll cage repaired and retapped that's all good. Then I went and started replacing the radio/servos. Ha ha!! What do I find? The new Hitec Metal Gear steering servo doesn't fit and modifications have to be made. Oh well, it will be easy. I got the Dremel and the 18V Bosch cordless drill charged up and a pile of accessories for them so the mod should be simple...in practice.

Although I've been bitching a lot, I'm very satisfied with my purchase. At this point I could have had a HPI but the KM came with many aluminum parts that the HPI didn't. I purchased 2 Proline Desert Rat bodies that I figure I'll paint bright orange to ensure visibility. I hope to get the beast running by tomorrow so I can take advantage of the lack of snow.

Happy New Year LSF.

Happy new year Bud.

I'd buy the HPI plastic roll cage and do the cage mod at the rear, so you can take the roll cage off without having to take the shock brace off, its an easy mod to do, i done it on my KM and it looks better too.
You would have had to do the Servo mount mod on the HPI too as the stock servos are bigger than the hitecs, again its an easy mod to do.

I'm sure you can find how the mods are done from the threads already posted on them.

Hey Texascat, I see your just across the river from me.....a good place to get parts for your car is Largescalerc.com. They are just down the road from us in Indiana and shipping is quick and they have a large quanity of parts for your car not to mention the guys there are great to work with, just ask for Bob,Troy or Scott and they'll get you set up.

I'll post pics just as soon as I get the booger put back together. I'm having an issue with the throttle servo at this point...not getting enough throw one way and too little the other. The steering servo went in fine and the Hitec Metal Gear has plenty of torque to the the job done. I'll work on it a little more this evening, cover it all back up, install the roll cage and wing, then later on the new Proline Desert Rat body.

Thanks Pete for the info. I'll look into that source.
