That looks good, is that can just a can? Like is it just a case with outlets/inlet etc?
Anyone got any pics of what the inside of an X can looks like?

I have my Mk1 stock can off my Baja, but don't know if that fits the exhaust outlet at the head. Just now I have a pipe off a mini-moto minus the silencer, managed to get a curved pipe that goes into the bottom of the expansion chamber, hoping to braze them together but no idea whether that will work or not.

Found out that the one that came fitted was a silencer from a mini-moto pipe, zero effect on anything as it was just a straight through deal!

Pretty exciting in there huh? They run pretty well though....

I like mine too :cool2:

As long as the motors are the same size (23cc-30.5cc) the muffler/can/pipes should fit. I have no idea about the mini-moto though.

I would think a stock can would work better than that contraption that's mounted in the pics.

Post up some more pics so we can see what you are dealing with.

Did anybody else see this? That should be the head, unless there is something wrapped around the head. Why is it rust colored? Under the rear shock preload spacers it's rusty as well. That stuff is all aluminum, alloy doesn't rust?

is it rust or dust?? Aluminium and stainless steel can rust if they become contaminated with mild steel (carbon steel) for example a simple scratch from a mild steel guillotine table will rust in no time as will sparks from a grinder.

That first pic was fantastic! Looked like it was ready for some airplane wings to be mounted! Or put it up in the closet and hang your clothes off it!

They are the future - mount some stabilisers on them to stop grip roll :lol:

The rusty colouring is just crud from where it was running regularly, here in the UK loads of the soccer fields are covered in 'red ash', its a sort of fine ground shale material.

Wow!....not thats a lot more basic than I thought it was going to be!
I thought it had some sort of internal crossed tubes affair, thats just an alloy box with a pipe sticking out!!! Even I could make one of those...

Leaves the question, just how complicated are the Doms etc?

Note:The gearing always sounds a bit off in the vids, the X-can ones the best Ive heard yet, don't know if thats just the can or different gearing, waddya think?
I assumed that the exhaust ran into the expansion chamber where it became a pipe with enough holes in to breath, but could still function as spark arrestor. There would also be enough 'restriction' to build a little back pressure to the cylinder head? But if theres no reed valve theres no need for on maybe....any exhaust experts on hand?

Of to town later to check out alloy cases now!:w00t:

The length and diameter of the cone shape on the dom, samba etc style pipes is all worked out by boffins! I cant remember whether a longer chamber give more top end and shorter more bottom end?? Its something like that! Its all about using the pressure waves from the engine in the exhaust to draw more fuel / air mix through for better performance. Im sure somebody will be along to give you the correct technology behind it or do a search through the engine section or google it!

Yea, the pressure bounces off the convergence cone (or is it the divergence cone, I get the 2 mixed up) and sub-sonically slams unburnt fuel back into the cylinder to create a "supercharging" effect. Google "Convergence cone" It will give you some ideas of how they work.

The reason the Xcan vids usually sound under-geared is because they usually are! I think mine sounds geared correctly, but I just may be immune to it.

The X-can doesn't add all that much power, but it is certainly better than the crap-o muffler. It's in between the crappy canister muffler and a full pipe. It's not going to turn your Gasser into a snarling beast, it will add a bit of power and a WHOLE bunch of noise!

Restriction and backpressure are horrible for a 2 stroke. The pressure wave isn't exhaust gasses backing up in the pipe, it's a pressure wave (sound, not exhaust gases) pushing escaped fuel back into the head.

Cheers Trip!

Picked up an alloy project box from Maplins....thats Radio Shack for you USA guys?
If anything its maybe a little too long, still sturdy and it screws closed nice and tight.
Im thinking that fitting it 'upways' with the exhaust taking a vertical as it leaves the head, then two ports left and right?

I'll try and do some pics of the box and the Frankenzorst creation this afternoon.

So the outlets will be facing straight up?

Not a good idea, if you roll the vehicle the outlets will snag (catch) the ground and could be damaged.

If you notice, the inside of the X-Can has filled in, smooth corners, not square... I don't know if this will cause you issues? It may be worth taking note. It could cause flow problems.

You could fill in the corners and make it look smooth on the inside like the Xcan with a strong epoxy. Something like JB Weld would work well. I don't know if you guys have this stuff over there, but here is a pic of it, this is glue, strong stuff. I have fixed cracks in engine blocks with this stuff. Don't use the clear stuff, it's not going to hold up. This stuff has one tube with black "steel" and a tube of white hardener. Mixed up it is gray in color.

Keep us posted.

I think the corners are like that more to accommodate the screw threads in the casting. I would be more concerned with the high temperature twisting and distorting a standard box not meant for this purpose. Worth a shot though if it was cheap enough ;)

I think he means the box will be vertical with the stingers left and right side exits so should be ok.
