Anyone know if there is a library of CAD files for the Zenoah engines? I would like to find one on the G260. I have one and can draw it up, but figured I could save some time if an envelope drawing already existed.

Start drawing bud :D They will be like rocking horse poop unless you know someone at Zenoah. When you finished I will have a copy off you :cool2:

Actually a lot of companies provide envelope drawings of their products, and recently a lot have started providing 3D models in envelope form. Being in mechanical design, not very uncommon. But I also have a digitizer I can use, would just rather spend my time working on something else:)

And that's why China :chinese: clones everything!

You have to understand what envelope drawings are. You can't clone something from an envelope drawing or model by itself. If someone is going to clone something, they would need more than envelope drawings.

you'd be surprised! We use a Faro arm at work with a laser scanning head to digitise complex objects (e.g. a whole gear-case weighing a ton and a half), then just sit it on the metrology table to figure out the exact dimensions of the interface points.

Problem is I can't use the kit to scan the engine in for you as it is kept under lock and key!

the Zen manual has key interface dimensions on it and a few other basic dims. shouldn't take more than half an hour to knock a representative space envelope if you have access to 3D CAD (I only have access to 2D CAD at work, not important enough to get a 3D license)

I drew up a radio tray on 2D CAD if that's any use to you

Thanks for the offer and help. I actually have a $10K Microscribe, I just believe in checking before I duplicate work. No I have been doing CAD for almost 30 years, I have Rhino3D and Alibre I draw up parts in.

Now if you have some 3D envelopes of servos:)

yea, I have the key dimensions as well as an engine in hand, I sent a note to Zenoah as well. If they don't have one then i will start drawing.

It not only helps in interference, but also helps when you do a 3D rendering as well to make the car look a little more realistic.

I guess I am ignorant of the matter. I have never heard of an envelope drawing, though I am familiar with 3d scanning.

An envelope drawing gives overall dimensions for clearance like you see when you buy a large TV and need to see how much room you need. As well as it generally shows mounting locations/dimensions. Basically anything you need to to use someones product is in a envelope drawing. Just some are moving more to providing them in 3D (IGES,STEP,DXF). That way you see if the product dimensionally fits before you buy or actually have it in hand.

should add an envelope provides no manufacturing information at all.

Thanks for all the replies. No luck, but one of the U.S distributors said they were going to Asia this week and would ask Zenoah if the data was available. Whether the answer is yes or no, it's the best route anyone can ask for, straight from the mfg.
