I got a tub of #2 LM grease from halfords, stuffed the diff full of it, then seald with a bit of silicone. seems to work ok for me and has helped stop the inside wheel spinning up in corners! then again, I only bash so I have no idea what difference doing it properly would make.

I am only a basher too (cue abuse from Voo & Jacko ) so will give this a try :cup-1:

i use lithium grease made by car plan, i just pack as much as i can in, i use to use diff oil but blew two diffs ,so changed to grease and had no problems since.

When I turn 1 of the back wheels the other wheel remains still rather than rotating in the opposite direction. Does this mean its lacking in grease? Ive neglected the diff so need to get it sorted before it breaks :scared:

not good! when you turn a wheel by hand, you are turning the diff, so either the transmission spins and the other wheel rotates with the diff (so this would indicate a partially stiff diff, like one filled with grease or a fancy expensive LSD) or the transmission stays still and the other wheel spins backwards (so this would indicate either a very sloppy diff or a stiff transmission).

if your other wheel stays completely still when rotating one by hand then it's probably about time to put some new wheel bearings in (check ebay for some 608-rs bearings, cheap ones are about £1, branded ones like SKF are more like £2.50).

the tub of grease I got was castrol LM2 (was on half price offer). Bog standard general grease is usually LM (Lithium Multipurpose). The number next to it is how thick it is, 1=runny, 4=tar. As a rule of thumb, runny grease lasts longer because it can take more of a beating than thick grease (thick grease gets mashed up and starts to break down over time), so a #2 or #3 should be OK. let us know how you get on!

When I turn 1 wheel the transmission turns and the opposite wheel twitches but doesn't turn in either direction. I just replaced the wheel bearings in the hubs in Jan and they are still good so will have to strip the diff & see whats going on inside. I will replace the bearings on the drive cups whilst I got it open. Will keep you posted ;)

I use Nulon hi temp grease, got a big tub of it from local auto store, orignally just applied by hand into the diff but every 3-4 months I use a syringe (minus the needle) and squirt about 10mm into it.

Done over 70 tanks and took the diff apart last week, gears were like new, not a mark on them so this stuff is awesome.

I packed mine with the LM grease from halfords about 2 months ago, sealed it with silicone.
Not had any problems with it.
Im a basher too.
just my 2c

Went to Halfords today & they only had general Castrol LM grease - no LM2, 3 or otherwise so got the equivalent Comma LM2 grease instead :D
