Hi, i have been into the rc scene now for around 5 months,in that time i have brought various fg large scales.I started off with the marder(which is easy to drive, even with desent power) and have just purchased a fg long wheel base on road,(just a sportsline as i only carpark bash with it) It is standard with a 23cc engine. The problem i have is that the car is so hard to keep in a straight line! i have to start off with quater throttle then by time i get enough speed for decent traction, i have ran out of space.the backend always slides out causing the car to spin out,i have tried to sort out the wheel/tyre geometry so i get more surface contact and am going to make the rear suspension slighly more soft, but would appreciate any feedback guys!i know i cant just nail it like the off roads and another problem is that all the carparks are full until the shops shut, meaning its getting on for 8pm and the noise then becomes an issue!I was thinking of just selling it cheap, but would love to get the handling issues sorted then i will keep it.Before anybody says its mostly down to my driving,i know im not the best at controlling these onroads, but even when im being gentle with throttle and steering i still have problems.thanx

I've a 1/5 and am definitely no expert certainly on on-road matters, but what I recognised very quickly, as well as the geometry of the suspension, is that you must warm up the tyres A LOT, then it all starts to happen.

If you enjoy your car, stick with it.

Buy some soft compound tyres mate.

What tyres are you running? You can have harder on the front or harder on the rear will all depend on the surface you run on so more info will help.

most of the setup is tires. if your running in a parking lot try soft on the front, extra soft on the rear, and when its hotter put the soft on the rear and run mediums up front. here is my basic setup

front
-red springs, 7000 oil
-no swaybar
-20mm ride height
-0 degrees camber at ride height
-0.5 degrees toe-out

rear
-orange springs, 4000 oil
-18mm ride height
-2-2.5 degrees camber (set it so the tires wear flat, its common to have different camber side to side on the rear, it depends on your track)
-2.5 degrees toe-in
-blade style swaybar set soft

this works not bad for me in a parking lot. basicly if you have the factory sportsline setup, it works well, id just run that with some soift and extra soft tires and tweak it from there. with an onroad car you cant just nail the throttle, you have to feather it and roll full throttle. you might be able to grab a lot of throttle on a prepped track with traction compound, however in that case if you can do that you likely don't have enough power.

What do you use to set up your camber and toe, just a basic ruler?

i have an fg gauge.

and

http://rc-car-online-shop.de/shop/en/products/fg_8541-8541-measuring-bench-390mm-1pce-.html

the gauge slides into the bar, and the bar hookes into 2 holes in the rear shock tower for toe in. you need to be a little creative on the front, i set it on the bulkhead with the steps on the pins. you can use a ruler to set toe, and rpm makes a cheaper camber gauge, but the fg stuff works real nice and is more accurate. one thing ive learned with these cars is a slight change make a huge difference.

Cool I can use this Thanks

wow, thanx sharky, super, atom pipious!alot of info for me to try there guys cheers, i have crappy suspension that needs upgrading asap, they are yellow springs on front and back but the funny thing is they have no damping!they are the cheapo hollow ones!i have a set of hardish cronos and a set of softish slicks, i can only use the onroad at night when carparks are empty, and have to be a HUGE SPACEto get any speed at all!i haven't used it for a while as been busy with marder, ive had it a few months and have only used it 2 or 3 times!i m losing interest with it abit, hope i can improve the handling!i actually contact simon spares off ebay,he offered me 250 but i didnt sell as wanted slightly more, but will try again to sort it.I do have the standard sportline setup.here is a vid of how it handle, i actually made it worse after this vid by changing the toe angle,as it looked stupid with toe in at the back when the shell was on,(a stupid move i know, will change it back)
HERS A VID OF WHEN I FIRST GOT IT,IT GOT A BIT WORSE SINCE AS I MESSED WITH TOE ANGLE,BUT WILL PUT BACK.

AND A VID OF WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE!

Hi mate, you need to drive alot faster with a bigger area to get the tyres to warm up first, try going to your nearest track and having a go there also there should be some club members there that will help you with a good setup for the track.
