The aerial antenna wire on my receiver has a break in it.

I'll need to replace the antenna, which I believe I have to do to the same length as before. Is it a special type of wire I need?

If I get the wrong wire will it not work?

I was also considering replacing the RX unit, but I don't see one on the rcmodelz.co.uk site ( king motor supplier ) which looks the same as mine. Am I right in saying it has to be the same receiver as I currently have to work with my TX?

I thought there have been threads on here regarding KM radio gear not being that good?
If that's the case, now's a perfect opportunity to 'UPGRADE' !!

Your call. There's a big choice out there. Ansmann, Futaba, Spektrum, to name 3.

I agree, ALL RTR radio systems suck IMO.;)

For the 30-40-50 dollars it would cost to replace I would get a new system. There are many deals to be had that will be a better system then that. If you can't afford a new one just make sure you run a killswitch with it.;)
