Looking for a good but well priced hydraulic brake kit for my FG baja 2WD, its all elcon and therefore I don't know if the FG kit will be a straight fit, not that I can justify the price FG want for their kit anyway.

So knowing that i will need to modify bits to make it fit the FG anyway I thought why not see what kits are cheaper and work out if I can modify it to make it work on the beast.

Opinions welcome

if the elcon parts are designed as a bolt on for an fg, any brakes that fit an fg should line up. if you have a stock fg upright line it up with the elcon ones you are running, if it looks like the same mounting pad, it likely is. past mounting the calipers, i cant see anything that would cause issues.

mecatech makes a set of "expert" brakes. they are single piston brakes and are quite a nice set up, especially for 159 euro.

ive heard allot about mecatech and seen one on a 5b which I think is what they are designed for, i don't think it would be too difficult to make up a couple of brackets and mount it to a fg?

Here's a pic of the experts fitted in my old FG MT.

Hav'nt got any close ups of the calipers but I think all hubs are the same as for fittment.

The brakes that Mike is showing you are good brakes and from Harm.

Brad.

Here are the brakes on my car. They're the Maguras but I've never known them called "expert" before. These fit most FG hubs without the need for adaptor plates. The Elcon hubs "should" accept this type without any issues.

Yours are the fg brakes mate, these are the mecatech expert which are the same but cheaper, could call them clones or copy's if you like.
Good brakes but I found that they did let some air in or leaked so probabley not as good as the fg but still good cheap hydro.

Mine are the magura 2 brakes which have the different master cylinder. The mecatek, magura and collari brakes are all copied off each other, the only other one is the twin pot mecatek now supply to FG which is what people like genius are cpoying.

The Genius brakes are Mecatech, just have the Genius name on, just like the Harm ones.

I've just been watching a little of the French Open, after the NASCAR, and truck racing, and must admit you 2 remind me of the tennis match!!
I'm sure you're both right!
I'll be honest to Mike and didn't initially understand the grub screw bit, and fitted a normal screw into the upper hole, and did actually lose some fluid - hopefully I didn't blow any fittings (or pistons!!) and have now fitted the grub screw, with no fluid loss after one full tank of 'playing', including the heavy alloy front going airborne (slight wheelie) so I wasn't hanging around!!

Local kids love it almost as much as I do!! (Potential problem as I always cut the engine with more than perhaps 3!!)

forgot to mention im running wheel wizards, so i guess I could run brakes designed for HPI/Clone vehicles, just need to fabricate the mounting.
