im after a new engine in the future for my HPI BAJA SS :cup-1: , i have a limit of £270 i will be saving for this so i want it to be something special as i always get my self into trouble for buying on the spot & not svaing..

i was thinking something like this?
http://www.freeprawnracing.co.uk/zenoah-28.5cc-4bolt-car-engine-g290rc.html

i have currently, crankcase fuelie 26cc engine with a rovan 30.5cc conversion kit inc bottom end & head, with an 813 & huge pipe, the engine is on its last legs its pratically held together with duct tape & araldit :cup-1:

any ideas :)

My take on engines verses 2wd and 4wd is based on seeing numerous various and chassis types over the years and it boils down to this..

If you want your car to handle well.......

big bore/ ported engines are best suited to 4wd chassis's as they are able to provide a stable platform for all that extra power while still remaining more easily controlable.

stock 23's and 26's are best suited to 2wd chassis' as they provide enough power when mated to a well chosen pipe and the car will still be quick but also controlable.

However, if you want balls out off the line dog bone snapping power and the car fish tailing all over then chose what makes you happy! in which case Mike1970 gives good advice either oddified or stEVO ported head will work well.

In all honestly the stock G270 Zenoah engine with a good pipe will give you plenty of reliable go.

Thinking about it if you don't want a tuned engine and just want something to rebuild yourself, I'll have a spare brand new 29cc CY barrel and piston form the engine I won at the EFRA GP that is now with Oddified being tunred into a 26 red top. You can have that for the right price - I don't know what they go for but I'm sure I can find out.

thing is with tuned motors when its rebuild time some have to go back to the original person who ported it, i think a standard zen27 or 29 with a decent pipe would suprise you in the power stakes, i run a baja with a standard 23zenoah a 603 carb and a rovan dominator pipe and it flys,

I give my engines to Ian at the end of the season for a rebuild, not that I have to, it's just my choice. I think it's about £40 which includes bearings, seals, gaskets, piston ring, throttle lever and a blast on the dyno so thats well worth it. If it's just a ring and base gasket every other meeting then I do it myself.

that seems like a decent price. Is that std or mates rates?

It may be a bit more to people he doesn't know or if it's not one of his engines but even then it'll go on the dyno and you're sure it'll be right. Tuning engine is a specialised job within each dicipline, toy cars, karts, powerboats or what have you. I know that if I go to a toy car race engine tuner, then I'll get something I can rely on to do the job it boasts because the tuner tests them in competition. If say a tuner from karts decides to tune engines for toy cars or vise versa, I wouldn't use one unless it's been proven to work under race conditions

its a bare engine ie no clutch ,clutch housing, carb, isolator blocks, flywheel ,coil leads / covers .... if its bolted to the engine you don't get it ............

so i just need to add carb, ins, flywheel, cover, exhasut & clutch, coil & its ready, could i just take all that off my current egnine?

Provided your crank case, covers, carb and such are ok, speak to oddified as He'll build you a 26cc red top for a good price.

Yes this is true, but he said he only had a certain amount of money. knowing what i know now and many guys on this forum, yes a 4 bolt oddified red head is the way to go, the engine i have is a 2011 spec, i used this in an on road baja 5B at crystal palace and i need to put a spoiler at the front to keep the baja on the ground as JEA will tell you. So oddified 26cc will be the way to go.:D:D:D:D:D

Oddified, Hobbycentre, C.A.D, IPS/JPF, Pitstop tuning are all race proven quality engines, sadly there are a lot of people who think they know better and go for engines from other "tuners" or reed valve monster power pipe b*llsh*t bling billet stuff that they or the cars can't handle. I won a 29cc CY the other week and because IMO the 26cc Oddified red top is the best out there, thats what it's being turned into. Look at the RC pedigree of an engine tuner, they may be great with mini moto or lawn mowers but unless they know RC racing, they're not worth a toss.

Yes Mike, everything you say is true i speak to ian nearly everyday when hes not gone racing and he has also told me these things which you are saying as quoted above, BUT YOU TRY TELLING SOME OF THE BASHERS THAT I RUN WITH AND YOU WILL TALK TILL NOW TILL 2014 AND THEY STILL don't LISTEN.
