What engine?

I've posted things about engines on here before, how much has been ignored is of no interest to me but...
If the Maclaren, Ferrari, Renault, force india or any other F1 team want a new engine do the go to see a guy who tunes engines for for banger racing or stock cars?, no they don't, they co to an F1 engine tuner.
Why would anyone who buys an engine for their RC car go to anyone other than someone who tunes engines for RC cars, even then I'd want to know that the guy doing the work knows what he's doing rather than it saying on his website "my engines are really fast" https://www.largescaleforums.com/showthread.php?t=13099
You ask him who is using the engines and he says there are loads of guys running about a field with them...... Mmmmm thats real testing for you. A quality tuned engine should have proper race pedigree and I know that the basher might say "all I want to do is go fast in a straight line" or "I'm not a racer so I don't need race pedigree"..... I keep saying that the most important thing with RC cars what ever make they are, is reliability and periodic maintainance not bling or fancy crap that has no benefit to the cars performance at all. If you're going to hop up your car, think about reliability first.

i run a oddie 23cc 4bolt made in 2006 by oddie for himself to use in the 2006 season its stamped with io06 which i have been told by ian that it was his engine i brought this second hand from ebay was a bit of a gamble but its turned out good and its still going strong the plating is still nice and bright and no dullness it had a new piston and ring just before i got it,,,,this speaks for its self made i 2006 probaly raced in 2006 with oddie and now still going strong would a oneils or other basher brand engine do this and still be like new inside with no loss in power

I agree you should stick with tried and tested tuners. One of the big things with tuned (ported) engines is how they run hotter than stock motors hence the tuner needs to know the best way of making the best power while not getting the engine too hot in races especially in the summer heat. It's really interesting to strip a head down and see what little porting is actually needed to get a good increase in power.

Everyone knows that Oddified, Alro, stEvo engines are built primarily for racing but they are also fairly easy to copy (pretty basic enigines) by the lesser known but not lesser knowledged engine builders and tuners. From that point it's a case of product development to find the edge and without all the testing equipement this means trial and error.

I think using the F1 analogy is like comparing the Wrights Brothers with Boeing, I fully understand the point Mike is trying to make but F1 is as much electronic as it is mechanical. 2 Strokes are very basic engines, although I am aware of Oddies electronic ignition and various maps can make a difference. You can't take away the quality of his work though as Renbar has testified to.

You be suprised what goes in to tuning an engine, it's not just attacking it with a dremel lol There is a lot of CNC work done by a lot of the top tuners but you're right about the testing, R&D and dyno test.

Guy's, I'm not having a go at anyone but you must see how many posts fill this forum every day with "What engine" then a few days later "why is my engine shite" kind of comments.

Don't get me started on pipes...........................

LOL, We have a guy at our club that has been playing around with Nitro's and 2 strokes for a while and yes there is a lot of CNC work that goes on and a little hand finishing here and there. He has striped and seen most UK tuners engines and in his opinion there is not a great deal of work needed to give your engine a boost.

Many posts found on forums are from guys buying dodgy stuff in the first place instead of spending a fair amount of money on the real thing where it's history is known. Personally I would never buy an engine off ebay, many do and get lucky but I just feel I am not that lucky :( but I have seen and heard of as amny horror stories.

I'm with you on pipes.....Again personally I dyno tested 2 or 3 well chosen pipes on my tuned engine on the same dyno and looked for a good all round power band. What I went for was not the pipe giving the best peak power but the pipe that produced the widest power band for my motor and then tweaked that very slightly with the addition of an x-port. Just done a strip down changing seals, gaskets and ring so good to go again.

guys what on earth is this & whats it come with?

http://www.mmrlargescale.co.uk/acatalog/RCKCZ002.html

its a bare engine ie no clutch ,clutch housing, carb, isolator blocks, flywheel ,coil leads / covers .... if its bolted to the engine you don't get it ............
cool thank you
so i just need to add carb, ins, flywheel, cover, exhasut & clutch, coil & its ready, could i just take all that off my current egnine?

??

bud if you are breaking engines as bad as you have said in your chat messages you may want to look at ways of correcting the problem before installing a new motor at all, please post up some pics of where your engine is breaking at so we can offer up some ideas to strengthen the areas of issue.

don't want to buy a 300.00 + motor only to have it break like your others on it first few runs now do you

in otherwords it is a barebones (block head and internals)

so i just need to add carb, ins, flywheel, cover, exhasut & clutch, coil & its ready, could i just take all that off my current egnine?

^^^????

i just over tightened the headbolts stripped the threads, then bolted it down drilling into the crank case & it cracked ect ect i broke it

but i still ran it

boy you are dangerous LMAO whats next spit and bailing wire or duct tape :lol::lol:

Hardcore basher mate drive it till it doesn't drive anymore! hense my 3 wheeled baja video lol :cup-1:

so i just need to add carb, ins, flywheel, cover, exhasut & clutch, coil & its ready, could i just take all that off my current egnine?
