Hey guys. I am interested in getting a gas off road car. I don't want something expensive like an HPI Baja or a Losi 5T. I will be driving it on a big smooth grassy field. Please help me out. Thank you!

have you looked at any king motor buggys? they are good value or maybe a ftx punisher 4wd , you could buy 2nd hand but be curefull some used buggys have had a hard life, like mine, lol

quality costs money. what are you looking to spend? redcat is is fairly cheap, but they do have their issues. you would be better off with something like an hpi baja, fg, mcd, etc. if a new one from those makers is out of the budget, consider used.

There is nothing cheap about large scale other then the fuel you run. Getting into large scale is the cheap part staying in it is what cost!!!! From experience I have found large scale to be WAY more expensive then smaller scales. I have found most times when you buy cheap before it is all over you have more in it then if you bought quality to begin with. You can start out cheap and if you buy the right model up grade as you break things. But by the time it is over you will have 3 to 5 times what your original investment was. Not trying to scare you just trying to let you know what you are in for.

The link is an FG Marder clone so should be ok if you upgrade with FG parts as & when they break. It 'looks' decent enough but I cant comment on the quality of the plastics, fit & finish etc.

You could consider a used FG or HPI as an alternative. They are generally reliable and would probably already have had hop-ups to sort the basic reliability issues so would offer you many more years of fun without too much hassle.

I am not the biggest fan of buying used stuff. Who knows what people do to their vehicles before they sell them.

I have to agree with that...some people don't know how to treat stuff but on the other side of things...I've now got an all alloy FG baja at a fraction of the cost of buying a new one...so If you can wait and be picky you can get yourself a bargain buying used

Id rather buy a good second hand hpi baja then a new clone baja that will end up costing you more in the end

I had a clone I bought cheap, it was destroyed after only mild driving over some months.
I now have a used FG Monster. Well it started out used, got it much cheaper then $700.
It could have stayed the way I got it and it would have been fine today, but I got down the path of buying a 4x4 kit, new engine and so on.

My friend still has his clone, and he has used x2 the money I have used on my FG, and his still won't run fine or stay togheter! Always something breaking. If I should guess, I would think there are only 30% left of the original clone. But those 30% needs new parts every singel time we are out driving!

Get a used FG or HPI and as long as it is in one piece and running good, it won't be as bad as a good clone.

The only clone I like is the KM Baja! If I haven't changed your mind about getting one!

$700 and that is too much? I hope that is just up front. It does cost money to keep this large scale hobby going. Drivers every now and then screw up and break stuff. If you have no money to throw at it, then I highly suggest walking away from the thought of jumping into the large scale world. This expensive hobby is not for everyone.
