Here are a few initial photos of my FG MT with 'Blue Thunder' bodyshell.
Early on LAST year I bought a 2/3 new Trevor Simpson 2-bolt 28.5cc engine.
This was set-up for Baja use, so I had to remove the clutch, the Turtle Racing housing (sold) and replace my original FG ones.
I've converted the rears to 'Tuning Discs' as well as the front - cables.
The engine is billet TS, TS cooling head, TS reed valve, TS timing cover - limited as I've fitted the kill switch into the cover (don't expect to play too much with that anyway).
PROBLEMS? LOADS!!! But that's normal. :o:D;)
Couldn't get the original clutch off, but I knew a man who can ... and did - sorted!
I had to adapt all sorts of things to fit the rear brakes, but thats sorted, with little hollow bolts meant for push-bikes. (Truck's so heavy I'm considering the hydro layshaft brake, but it'll do for now ....)
I've got the steel pull-start cable installed into .. the pullstart, with billet handle.
When fitting the Kill Switch cable into the green connectors of the Killer Bee in the radio box, I was a little ham-fisted (unusual for me .... !!) and broke off the connecter box!!:mad::mad:
Killer Bee suggested a direct solder onto the module - not easy for an amateur like me as the contacts are very close. IT WORKED :w00t::lol::cup-1:
Next to assemble all and, well, charge batteries and fire her up!! (It's been perhaps 4-5 months since the MT's turned a wheel in anger, so all was double checked - bolts, etc., glue on the tyres (seems OK).
First few pulls .... I hear a few clicks in the pullstart and the cable doesn't rewind :mad::mad:
The 'old' pullstart was one of those chrome CY option pullstarts, that actually had an alloy pawl, and was working perfectly.
I had threadlocked the old retaining bolt into the alloy cover, so .... nothing's easy!! A bit of sawing to permit a rather heavier duty screwdriver and it's off and the replacement installed, steel cable replaced pull-chord again.
Time to re-assemble and try again ....
Considering the motor's been on a shelf for 7-8 months awaiting installation I'd been putting the nearest 'best option' oil in to line the cylinder - nitro after-run oil - so I expected a difficult and smokey start.
The compression's obviously more than the previous G260RC, which was still running very well, and more than the G240RC 4-bolt in the Macca.
When I was about to give up, it, erm, 'burped' - GOOD SIGN.
10 seconds to rest the shoulder, then on second pull, she fired up.
I'm running a Walbro 813 and found that L/H settings were 1.1/1.2 +/-, so I've set it on the default 1.25/1.375, so I expected it to run rich - and it does, but I prefer it this way - new, tight engine. That was 19:30 yesterday, so I only ran it lightly with very slight revving for perhaps 5 minutes.
It fired up fairly easily today and I ran it for perhaps 15 minutes. A sudden burst of heavy throttle had it hesitate a bit which I've put down to being tight and over-rich - don't see it as a problem.
Bottom line 1, it's very shiny but doesn't linger on a shelf!!
Bottom line 2, as mentioned above, there's no replacement for hydros, and with a truck this heavy, it SLOWS quite well, but doesn't 'stop on a sixpence' as I would like .... that's for the future ...
Here's the photos.

What do you think? .... (Constructive) criticism accepted. ... !!:D

Continue putting more time on the engine.
Always a little difficult to start, then I noticed this evening that the NGK (type?) plug cover wasn't fitted properly on the plug - was loose.

Never know, maybe it was that.

I'll put another 30 minutes or so on the engine before I start leaning it off and tuning it, perhaps more.

I want 'show with some real go' - here's hoping!

Couldn't resist the Stig bit - a bit obvious but good fun.
I've a 5-year-old lad who had a Stig buggy which he basically trashed, so I found a near-new one on Fleabay and transferred things to make it look like his old one was new .... then I butchered the old one for the Stig, wheel and sort-of console :D:D

I've found more ferrules on Fleabay for the pullstart in case I have more problems - can't find any of the reserve ones I had. Had a problem locating till I got the name right!!

Is it me? !!

Does anyone else use those 'NGK' plug caps.
How do you get them to stay on without working loose?

Never had a problem with the standard ones, and this seems like I need to 'work it on' for quite a while, just to stay there.

Im pretty sure some of the ngk plug caps don't require the terminal cap on the spark plug, unscrew it and try

Nice shinny looking brick you got there :) j/k really does look nice. Can't wait to finish the rampage MT I'm building now with a TS case motor.

Yeah, the TS treatment is great bling, and it goes!!
Nice sound - much sharper, crisper sound.

Need to put some 'leaner' fuel in - decided the starting problems are mainly the old and oil-rich fuel oiling the plug.
A little too much oil isn't a bad thing and too rich neither, on a new engine.

The NGK plug cap is made for normal-type plugs, so I've tried another way - I put the rubber sleeve onto the plug, then 'click' the cap on, then work the rubber sleeve over the cap ...

Lost the steering, but only going slowly - I've 4 high power servos on the beast - 2 Rhinos and 2 Savox 1256TG's!!
I run 5Ah LiPo with 10A LRP 6V regulator with a Hobbythek power bypass for the receiver .... lots of wires, hence the big radio box!!

Wow !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's been 'glugging' quite a lot, which has initially been a too-oil-rich fuel mixture and rich setting combined.
Fuel was changed.
Fuel setting's now been leaned off a little - still fairly 'healthily' smokey.

All I can say is 'KINELL' :w00t::w00t::w00t:

Proverbial off a shovel now!!
(Half throttle only of course!!)

Spin turns on damp tarmac and soft grass alike, then storming off.

Nose doesn't lift much, probably through the all alloy front and 4 servos, plus the huge electronics box and .... THE STIG !!

EXCELLENT - GREAT FUN.

That was only 10 minutes during my lunch break.

Roll on the lighter evenings!!

looking good Al .......did not know you had the TS engine

as you know Al im not to much into bling;)

K....

..... my other mate's called Pinnochio ... !! :D:D:D

Thanks anyway.
All I'm waiting for is the good weather, (and avoiding a potential 'ASBO' of course !!) being a fine, upstanding member of the local community!!

Back to being a slightly muddy 'shelf queen' - I'm off on my travels again - but just a couple of weeks this time!

After my initial fuel problems, I decided to take a look at the plug - BLACK!

Damn, if that's how she runs when still a little tight, and an oiled plug ..... looks like this is a pretty fast rig!!
I'm still smiling! :D

Missing the RC's already!!

Fortunately this trip's only for 2 weeks ...
By the time I get back, I'll probably have some light when I return from 'normal work', and I'll get the trucks out again!!:D:lol:
