thinking about purchasing a 2.0 verision that has the 2speed and 30.5cc motor from a seller on ebay, I've heard alot about poor quality, this one in particular is completely aluminum and looks awesome for 1,200 or so. Is it worth it?

Whether it's worth it or not is up to you. There are a lot of us here who have KM products and we really like them. I have the 30.5 2 speed T1000 and it's a great truck and I've had very little problems with it. Mine isn't all aluminum like you're looking at, so any weak plastic problems they may have would be solved with yours.

There are a lot of bad rumors about KM's, primarily from when they first came out and they did have some durability and assembly issues. They've come a long way since and are now, IMO, a quality vehicle for the price.

You'll be happy with them all, but whether it's worth it or not is up to you. For me, mine was absolutely worth it. But I paid far less than $1200. It doesn't have all the aluminum, but IMO all that aluminum isn't needed (only some).

mine is a 29cc t1000 2 speed, from Dan off ebay, 730 shipped is what i paid.

i did alot of upgrades to mine, but nothing has ever broken except the PS, you need to get one with collar round the pawl gear, it solved the problem i had with original. course, the ones out now, may already have the collared pawls now on the PS. other than that nothing broken on mine

PS = Pull Start...FYI. The only problem I had with my pull start was when some grass got stuck in there. I've got an outerwear on there now to keep crap out of there.

I assume you're looking at this beast for $1399?:

That's a nice rig, but I'll bet it's heavy. I noticed the front bulkhead is still plastic. I've broken 2 of those on my HPI 5B, so it definitely won't last on an all aluminum beast like that one. It's nice, it's shiny, but you could custom build you one with some real nice name brand quality stuff for cheaper, or at least the same price.

sooo, the aluminum makes it sturdy but heavy? and if so does the two speed compensate for the weight?

Yes, aluminum is much stronger, but there are some cheap easy to replace parts to keep plastic as "breaking" points. Aluminum still bends so if you hit something hard you want a cheap part to break instead of an expensive part to bend and become useless. The aluminum is quite a bit heavier than plastic too. That 30.5 will start to perform like a 26cc once you load it up with all that aluminum.

When I'm done, my own rig will have an aluminum bulkhead, upper arms, steering arms, rear hub carriers, and shock supports. All lower arms and remaining parts will be plastic.

One member here had some concern when his truck arrived with a broken rear hub carrier and there was a delay in communication, but Dan made it right and all is well.

Hope this helps, and please continue your research. I'd hate to influence your decision and have you regret your purchase.

cobra i have followed this forum for at least 2yrs on and off without joining just being directed here by google and you and a few others have always been on point and good at doing ur best to help everyone who poses a question as well as blasting new know it alls who just want to argue so i feel ur input is very helpful

I also bought one from Dan a few months ago and the only problems I have had were driver related, Oh and if you buy one you may find yourself smileing at inappropriete times as well so take that into consideration:)

my king motors baja is holding up well no that i have worked the small kinks out. i bought mine from heat hobby but i have heard nothing but good things about danlc4. if i had to do it over again i would have bought from dan. oh and just a warning once you start with upgrades its hard to stop.

Bought t1000 from Dan a couple weeks ago on eBay...paid full $829 like a dummy (didn't notice the obo option...lol). Had a servo saver break within 30 mins of running it, but I'm chalking that up to being 30 degrees outside. Dan was great to work with...very good communication and he upgraded my pipe to the Dragon without me asking. Good luck!

I ordered the baja in question from Dan last Monday. It promptly showed up 3 days later. And its more awesome in person. The pictures do not do it justice. The next day while do initial check over befor running it the steering servo just quit.I called Dan and explained what happened. We done a few checks on it (he stayed on the phone). We confirmed bad servo.Dan said he would handle it.2 days later (yesterday) the servo showed up.Ran it last night. No problems at all.Actuall ran a couple tanks thru it.In my honest opinion its worth every penny. It is heavy but i believe the 2 speed makes up for it.I will always buy from Dan. Awesome product with awesome customer service

Good to hear he took care of you, IMO the servo's that come with it are suspect to begin with they are just poor quality hence the cost savings. When you can afford it get yourself something reliable that won't cause a runaway and ruin your baby:)
