So, once my KM arrives i'll be going through everything to make sure the factory didn't miss anything.

What fluids/checks will I need?
 
well theres really only 2 to start with
differential, and shock, check those out make sure they are well supplied,
the only other one and you will get lot of differences of opinions on this is the 2 cycle oils, everyone has the one they like, so thats something you will need to look at and decide what works best for you,and whats available to you look in your area hardware or auto parts stores and see whats offered.
alot of brands from amsoil, lucas, redmax, castrol,caster oil's etc. the list can go on,

Is synthetic widely used on these? Is there a better spark plug option as well that most folks use?
 
CMR7H is the NGK plug and depending what country your in will depend on what oil is widely available. Most racers un the UK favour Castrol 747, it's £15 a bottle from karting shops or good model shops and if you use 200ml per 5 ltr of shell Vpower you won't go far wrong.

I'm looking forward to tearing into this thing once it arrives. From what I hear, removing the diff is a big job huh?
 
can be, don't rush it and if you have a mini torch get it out, some of the bolts might say "they don't want to come out" and strip out ,may need a bit of persuation, but over all wont take that long takes me about an hour to pull the diff, longer if the bolts act up

I've seen tutorials of folks using an electric drill with an extension bit. What size bit(s) does it takes?
 
2mm , 2.5mm , 3mm, 4mm, 5mm those should cover all of the screws in,on ,and around the buggy, might even be 1-2 6mm if i remember?

Gotcha, so a basic hex set like most models take.

Rewinding gears for a moment (ridiculous amounts of pun intended), what weight shock oil/diff oil would you guys recommend?
 
simple,jump on ebay, i bought a 8 pack of shock oils different weights like $30-$35 shipped,and just grab the hpi diff oil for baja/flux only 1 weight needed runs about $7 bucks also.
shock oil you want to try different weight till you get the response your looking for
