A friend gave me his Goped to fix. I have rebuilt the carb wellbro 603. I have replaced all the bearings ,gaskets, seals, and piston ring. But it will not start. sprayed carb cleaner down throat of carb, nothing. Put gas in spark plug hole, nothing. When I ground the plug against the head and pull the rope theres a ton of nice blue spark. I hate this this thing. I'm looking for new ideas, to try also has new head gasket. thanks Mike

what engine is this? also did the engine have any spacers? copper or heavy gasket material? if it had any i suggest you go back and dig em' out of the trash, head spacing could be off.
is the piston riding smooth? thats why the question above was asked if you placed the ring incorrectly on the piston and not in the slotted notch it has, it should of not of went in properly if you forced it in then you could of broken the ring and scratched up the cylinder.
if everything is proper then check you coil gap, move onto the carb make sure the fuel is flowing check filter,

RC230 engine

The piston is facing forward when I put the piston ring on I saw a little pin in the ring groove I put the ring on so the gap was where the pin was. The piston slipped right back in the cylinder moves up and down fine. I have no way to check the compression. I took my Carb off all three gaskets between the Carb and the engine were wet with gas. Not enough to drip but were wet from intake hole to bottom lower corner. I'm thinking air leak. I am afraid to tighten the bolts more I might break something. Do you Guys use any gasket Goop on yours?

Fix the fuel leak with a new carb gasket set, no goop/sealant required

Set the carb mixture needles back to factory setting, mix 25:1 fuel ratio make sure you got a good spark and try starting it...........

if it don't start the next thing i would check is the squish clearence this is to do with any copper or paper cylinder spacers/gasket's that were removed or replaced

I think I have it

The arrow on the piston needs to point to the exhaust mine is backwards, DANG!!!

still no start

I'm going to try a new spark plug. This one comes out of the engine wet. But only sparks when its not installed I guess.

spark Plug should be wet this means its getting fuel

Also make sure you have all the correct cylinder gasket/spacer this can mean the difference of starting or not starting

And if the carb is installed and tuned correctly theirs no reason why it should'nt start

No fuel no spark no fire

Head Gasket

I think they sent me the wrong Head Gasket in the kit I bought. The one on it was some kind of blue fiber. They sent a metal one so I used it. It is the only part that is not stock. I ordered the blue one last night. Got my piston pointed the right way, the ring is on right. I'm going to do the squish test just to see whats up. Got a new spark plug too, parts will be here Fri.

Goodluck bro im sure you'll get it figured out

Off to the shop

I took this engine all apart checked everything. Got it all back together. put on the choke 3 or 4 pulls and she pops. Turned off choke. 2 or 3 pulls fires up idles for 5 or 6 seconds quits will not fire again. I'll give the guys at the shop here a shot at it.

Sounds like just a carb tune

IT's Alive

I think I was just flooding it all this time. Turned the L screw out 1 & 1/2 turns instead of 2 starts and runs. Thank You all for the support and help Mike

Happy Days Mike.
Glad to read this thread - that's what this Forum's about.
I'm no expert either, but remember the 1 1/4 LOW, 1 3/8 HIGH is a 'good guide'.
All engines and carbs are not identical.

The BONUS is that unlike nitro, once set, ...... that's it!! Virtually no need to touch the settings again!

Al.
