Hey guys i have decided i quite fancy a HPI BAJA they look awesom and i always hear about them see videos on how good they are. just wondering if anyone with experience could let me know what to look out for with a second hand one?

like on ebay i haven't got a clue whats good whats not, what a good price to pay for one is? I also want to avoid buying like a cloned one which isnt actually an offical HPI BAJA. I'm very up on onroads and i know how many people try and sell a carson on ebay as an FG EVO, and as i am a novice with BAJA's a novice with onroads might buy a carson thinkings its an fg evo.

so ya pointers to look for what the tail tail signs are of someone trying to pull a fast one on ebay would be amazing. Of course if anyone would like my imput or help in buying an onroad im happy to help

You will usually find HPI stamped on the Wheels/tyres, radio box, gear cover...the ball joints are grey on a HPI and Black on a clone...you will find most Baja's for sale will have had most parts upgraded on them so a full HPI will be very hard to find...

Purple chassis and shocks are the earlier V1 cars...

If you find one you like post up the link or pics and we can advise from there...

So .........

Here we go ......... :lol::w00t::lol:

EVERY BAJA'S A CLONE ANYWAY AS NONE HAVE ALL-HPI PARTS!!

Got to laugh - sad really.

On that theory, both of my 'FG's' are clones.
Am I bothered?

NO!!

Sorry guys, just a laugh.

heey ill find some of the links in a bit for you guys to see one is a baja 5b ss which looks nice i've studied the photos on the website and it all matches perfectly and i dought someone would go as far as upgrading all the parts to a real baja because would cost more than a new original one.

I'm going to sell a project of mine soon but ill have to advertise it as part clone part fg because it has.. fg comp chassis, fg engine mounts to make it fit but most of the other parts to it are carson, carson fuel tank and suspension. Going to sell my alloy parts with it upper alloy wish bones, lower alloy wishbones, HPI 26cc fueile engine and the original chassis that came with the carson. I haven't a clue how much to advertise it for.

but ya ill find those links the the bajas i like. cheers guys

Stamps on most hpi parts and what engine is with the car there are alot off km rovan clones about don't get me wrong they are good

hey thanks for your reply ya i've been hearing the roven word a lot, which is more expensive though the hpi baja or the roven? of course don't want to buy something thats a roven disgused as a HPI if the hpi is more expensive thus paying a premium for something thats well ya fake.

it just saddens me when people like on ebay sell something disgused as something else dispite weather its good or not its like when people sell something that looks like a vintage ferarri all looks nice premium price but its actually something else still good but not the real thing.

ALL 3 are hpi,
but the 1st and 3rd ones look to be the better taken care of
2nd one with the dent in the silencer looks like it took on some major jumps, or tumbles which means there could be hidden damage

hi guys thanks for your replys yaa i was thinking that also its really nice. i liked the second one but ya the dented pipe did make me think hmm and i didnt think is there hidden damage. What kind of things are breaking on these in a bit of a smash and tumble? thanks guys though really great to have your help and looks like my instincts about what is real or a rip off seem to be good lol.

cheers guys

hey guys just wondering what is the cheapest you can get a Baja 5b ss brand new? just deciding is it worth buying second hand or just go for new? love the idea of making the buggy up too so ya be interesting if anyone knows the cheapest you can get one new

fg marder help needed

Hi could anyone help with a bit advice....?....I bought an fg marder and used it twice, the second time I used it it was just revving but the wheels weren't turning...when I lift the back end up the wheels spin fast but as soon as I put the car back down it doesn't move? Any ideas could this be the clutch...I really can't get to the bottom ov this problem....any help much appreciated thanks, Darren

Troy, Mike's a northern lad and 'says it like it is' - simples!!

Slippage - possibly clutch.
Check any / all drive hexes and grub screws - might be a simple fix.

Yeah well he should learn some respect, I was always told if you don't have something nice to say don't say anything at all;)

Just because you've got a Clone!!

My FG's probably are 'Clone's of some description - do I care? Nah!!

It's the same story for everyone - you want the ride to be reliable.
I'm trying to re-educate myself to the 'upgrade if it breaks' philosophy. A bit boring, but much cheaper in the long-run!!

I bought the hpi 5bss kit and yes it was fun building it up but if you want all the upgrades your probably better off buying something thats already been upgraded and save your $$$$$$$$$$$

I don't like them and as this is an open forum I'll voice my opinions how I see fit.

I don't think that Baja style of car (who ever makes it) offers the owner a realistic view into setting up cars and making them work well as there is very little adjustment - it's a baja, i must add bits to it including big daft pipes and engines to make them work.
