Hi there - i am new to 1/5 scale petrol rc cars and have recently bought an fg marder and a carson attack with a load of spares.
Just recently the engine expired on the marder so i fitted another engine complete with engine mountings and gear carrier from a carson attack " all looked the same " but the problem i seem to have now is that the 2 plastic drive gears ( original ones from the marder ) on the ends of the clutch bell and layshafts seem too far apart and wont mesh - they just slip. I think i have read somewhere that the large engine mounting that houses the layshaft and also the gear carrier are different - is this correct or am i going mad - please help

Yes mate the Carson attack & smartech spider etc have different gear carriers ! It's a pain , I'm in the middle if my build and have run into problems with my smartech spider getting a zenoah engine , I needed the fg gear carrier , gears & layshaft complete so I can put it in and then realised that the clutch housing is different " the engine came from a mcd " so now I'm waiting for a housing from ddm so I can mount my new engine ! Although if you use the drive train + the gears from the Carson also then you should be ok

carson and marder spur and pinion tooth counts are also different think there are two more on carson cars and similar clones, from memory and fg's add up to 64 and carsons 66, don't quote me this mind, the grey matter is not what it was
