guys

has anyone got any good tips on how to remove slick tyres from truck wheels need to replace wheels as squares have rounded

chris

If you only use FG truck wheels then you can ask Ian Oddie to supply you a pair of wheel spiders - they are the best on the market.

Other than that, buy 5ltr of nail varnish remover from the hairdressing wharehouse and use that.

I'm sure sombody will find a link somewhere, but it normally involves acetone (nail varnish remover), boiling in water, and / or sticking in an oven for 20-30 minutes at 130C ....

Claims are the tyre can be removed, and if the reverse to you, the wheel won't be deformed.

I've tried a few times, but it's never worked for me!!

I have used the boiling water method a few times but you must leave on the boil for a good 15 mins, just take care when removing the tyres as sometimes the glue can be very sharp.

removing tiers

Flip the tires over and apply debonder to the other side of the rims, and then wait another 30 minutes for the debonder to cure.
After the debonder has cured, try to remove the tires from the rims.
You should be able to rip the tires off the rims at this point, but don't be discouraged if some sections are still glued to the wheels. Use sharp scissors to cut the stubborn sections and discard the old tires in the trash.
Wash the rims with soap and water and then dry them thoroughly. You can now mount new tires on the rims.Nitrotek

From what I found with the 'big stuff', acetone will NOT work adequately - just leave quite a mess.
The easiest way is in the oven, or in the boiling water, loosen with protected hands (oven gloves, etc.) then wipe of the loosened superglue.
NOW, immerse in acetone, leave overnight, wipe around to clear off the reacted superglue (its a guey mess trust me!!), then replace and repeat until wheel and tyre are clean.
The acetone is excellent, but for the final stage.
It's probably fine on the little stuff like 1/8 buggy wheels, but not largescale MT wheels.

acetone on some foams will turn them to goo...
i've boiled off countless 1/5th tires off wheels...boiul 15-20mins then i wear welders gloves to break the bond while still hot...works everytime

Definitely going to give this technique a try with my 1/5 F1 tires. Now I need to find some welder gloves.

100% agree with boil, loosen off, then soak in Acetone.

Ensure the bead is away from where it was, as it will re-glue itself!!

Putting in an oven will not be appreciated by other family members - my wife certainly didn't like it!!!
