I was at the hobby shop picking up some parts, and he had one there. It's $879 wanted to know if it's worth it? I know it's a new vehicle, being no one had it not sure if I wanted to open a can of worms. Watched many YouTube vids on it and it looks great. I'm thinking I should wait a while and see what reviews it gets when people actually start running it. What you guys think?

WHAT? You let it stay at the hobby shop!!?!? Go back and get it! :D

Believe me I wanted to take it, but I'm in the middle of building a Losi 5T with the RCMax46. It took to long to become available so I moved on to the next project. Maybe in the future.

The M.A.P. is $799.99 of course a hobby shop will charge more you can get it right then and you still have to pay for the shipping on $799.99

don't do it

Listen I know I'm new to the site, but Ive had this truck on back order for 8 months and it finally got here, when it did it has been sitting with no customer service since. I am mechanically inclined but can tell you it don't matter if you work on it they void the warranty. I am saying this because on my 4th tank of gas the engine seized. Had to send it in they took about a month to let me know it was going to be covered. That was great with no news in a month I was out of nails to chew on. Got the new engine what a relief after about 5 minutes started running like crap. Pulled plug and the button head had fell into the crank case well you know what that means. I had to try to get a hold of somebody again. When I finally got an email reply. The response was what is my mixture. They give you break in oil 14:1 of the mix by the way. And oil has nothing to do with the anode or gap for the plug falling into the crank case. Nope Im converting it to nitro.

So my advice is waite maybe a year and I bet they get rid of this engine and go back to nitro or turn down the rpms. The engine, and there customer service sucks. Oh when I say they Im talking about horizon hobby. I still have not had a response to my email back almost 2 weeks ago giving them the mix info. I think they are speechless. I just wish they would give me a fix. This car has never touched dirt I just put a new button head in and ran it for the 1st tank it quite after about 3 laps of figure 8 running for break in. Well I said screw the customer service I want to see what happened took the starter plate off and the lower bearing of the connecting rod is demolished. This is the same problem the first one had.

It may take them a while but they will fix it just send it back a new one will show up sounds like it may not be shifting and over revving engine

It does, but surely the nitro engine is not revving lower than the petrol?
Is the petrol possibly running hotter?
I know its 14:1, not 25:1 as in Largescale, for the PetrOil ratio, but this is still 7% Oil, not the 11-16% normally encountered in (GOOD) Nitro Fuels.

It could also be the air filters ....

Over revving is bad on the rod bushing and piston bushing if the two speed is not shifting it will over rev the engine
But when this truck first came out In nitro it did the same thing it broke rods they will fix it
The hobby shop by me has one on shelf iv been thing of adopting it

Never had a single problem like that with my LST2 spec Raminator, when it was nitro.
I had several occasions when it wasn't changing.
I must admit to being aware of when an engine pitch goes high - not totally tone deaf - and gave a bit of mechanical sympathy.

I've noticed several installing LRP .32's in their little lightweight buggies, and of course videoing them 'red-lining'. Never seem to have a problem.

Iv been around RC cars sence 1980 and had most of everything that's been put out and the first batch broke rods
Iv been a losi fan sense the JRX2 my first losi but realley got going with the gas trucks we raced with Adam Drake when he first started at Crcrc in Columbus Ohio
I got two of first 5ives out and DBXL just been Raceing this summer travling is why have not got one yet went to east coast nationals and powerjam and tried to go to Canada just could not make Canada happen

..... though, must admit, if there's something I REALLY want, I do await some 'consumer development' before I purchase it.

It is a bit rough that they can't get it right, even now - should know what to expect by know surely!!

The break in is as follows Do not run on dirt for the first 4 tanks of gas. If it is the air filter than its a factory issue its as clean as can be and it wouldn't be dirty after 2 minutes or so of driving. Yes the book says this will rev higher than a Nitro at any where between 30,000 to 40,000 rpm depending on tune. Right now I have the engine running so fat it barely clears smoke all the way through throttle I did this just so the engine wouldn't seize again. If i had to guess its revving about 20,000 tops and it idles at 3500 to 5000 so it should not be over revving plus I am not getting but to 3/4 throttle. You are right though I have not seen 2nd gear. This was not enough time for the engine to get above 160 f. It stopped I temped it as soon as I grabbed it and it was 160 the book says on the 2nd tank to not go above 195. I think I should have been good. They tell you to adjust the carb to achieve break in temps. Im not even close to high temp or over revving. Im just so frustrated, ive had this truck for almost 5 months without even being able to touch dirt or do a complete break in. They give me a new motor and now im back at zero tanks of a 8 tank break in at roughly an hour a tank.

Thank you for your advice as soon As they send me another shipping label I will send this engine back in the mean time I will convert this truck and probably have a spare for another expirement who knows.

Nice to know a man in the know!!
It does seem that a LOT more care is required with these petroil engines.
Revving more than the nitros - sounds interesting!!
How about a bigger bore with nitro gearing??

You will get it send me a pm of who you talked to ill call them I know 3 people that works for them maybe I can help

Just had the fiance send it off in the mail. If you do know somebody there maybe you could recommend they get a couple more employees to answer phones. The shortest call back time has been about 3 hours. I work monday through saturday in the field with no phone reception. I get a 30 minute lunch break, and it is impossible to get somebody to call back or answer the phone in that time. That said I did talk to somebody on my first call back, the gentlemen was awsome to talk to and sent me a packing slip through email that was great. Of course that engine only lasted about a tenth of a tank of gas, when I finally got it back. With the same catastrophic failure.

Thanks again guys I hope that this truck does okay with the stock 454. This was the best I could do getting married soon. sept 27th to be exact and everything ive got is going into it. This extra money for the complete used 454 and tank should get me on the track fairly cheap.

Does anyone know what kind of modifications are needed to convert this truck ahead of time the engine is in the mail? It comes with clutch, pipe, output gear, and carb.

This is my third truck and It's twice the chassis my last 2 were. I would love to keep it going.
