A question for you bud.

In your opening post, you say everything is hand cut and no vinyl cutters are used.

It's almost like you think that vinyl cutter are dirty words and no real shell painter would use them.

What wrong with using a vinyl cutter if it speeds up the job and makes things neater.

I wouldn't take it as vinyl cutter is a dirty word but, It's done by hand, which is time consuming, so, no moaning when you see how much a paint job costs. :)

Thanks guys, honestly to me vinyl cutting is a dirty phrase. Why have a machine do it when I can do it by hand? With a machine, its simply paint by numbers. Not meant to piss anyone off, just the way MR works.

Painting is a great skill which I don't have it, I paint my own shells using machine cut masks because I'm just too tight to pay anyone else to do it but you're saying that everything you've posted is hand cut vinyl and painted, all the logos, flames and such?

They're all awesome looking. I like to try my hand at painting with liquid mask but, where Mr. Paint's bodies look like he uses a magic wand, mine look like I used a broken crayon. :)

Yes, 100% of what you see here was cut with an xacto knife and my hand. I use liquid masking film though, not vinyl. Nothing was purchased or cut with a vinyl cutter.

That's everything, logos, flames, lights, grill, window trim, everything. Probably why I don't kick out as many shells as the other guys, but there is something unique about MR-Painting. I keep it old school.

I can see your point about vinyl however I also think that everything has it's place. I don't just use vinyl I work with both. Clearly there is a skill with a knife to cut all those logo's that well but if you're doing a repeatably pattern over a shell or something with a lot of logo's in it then that's where the vinyl has it's place.

Using a knife is skillful, as is using a vector program on a computer to create the masks, and also understanding how the masks can work to the shape of the shell. However vinyl isn't always the best way to do things, your Jeff Koons BMW inspired shell is a prime example of this, as the design is literally all over the shell liquid mask is clearly better but I still think vinyl masking has it's place.

This is just a hobby for me and I don't use the vinyl to create masks for mass production of any sorts, but for getting a design symmetrical it's really useful, getting logo's on accurately and the same if they're in 4 different places at different sizes.

I used to paint crash helmets on a full time basis and when I bought my vinyl cutter it really turned it around for me being able to work quicker and produce manufacturers logo's accurately helped me out.

At the end of the day though, as long as the effect achieved is the same it really doesn't matter how it's got there, if the customer is happy that's what matters and I'm sure most of them don't really care if it's been cut by hand or on a vinyl cutter.

Honestly kicking out a symmetrical shell isn't hard at all. But that's a whole different secret that I have that I will take to the grave...

Well I needed to get this order done today... started around 8 am still needing to finish up design work. Finished her around 10 pm. 100% hand cut and airbrushed as always. Make sure to check out the shadow work on the gavel. Lots of logos on this one, plenty of custom mixed colors. But that adds to the fun... Its a design that I've done before. Same customer. Races here in Iowa. The last body stayed in the state too. Rarely get Iowa orders... Thanks for looking onto the pictures!

This body is huge! Painted this up today. Base color is pure black, ripping away to reveal a Confederate flag underneath. Lots of depth going on with shadow work. Pretty simple overall. 100% hand cut and airbrushed. Thanks for looking!

Painted this up today. Customer wanted a Halo body without any Halo logos. Wanted it to look like a Warthog, and add some Legendary logos to it too. This is the outcome, 100% hand cut and airbrushed. No vinyl, no decals.

Painted this up awhile ago, just getting around to posting pictures... 1/5 FG BMW body, using the logo of the customer's logo and making a race design out of it. I really like the outcome. 100% hand cut and airbrushed as usual. Thanks for looking!

Painted this up today for a customer in Canada. Hopefully he likes it as much as I do! Its an FG 1/5 BMW. Bright white, yellow and lime green flames upfront. Next layer is a beautiful blue pearl with splatter affect on it. And the final layer is a checkered flag. 100% hand cut and airbrushed as usual. No decals. No vinyl cutters.

Anyways as usual 100% hand cut and airbrushed. Hope ya like it guys! After some issues with my email through Bluehost, orders are rolling in like crazy! Keep your eyes peeled, lots more shells coming!

Been working on this body for awhile now. 2nd go at the Jeff Koon's BMW Art Car. And for sure my last. All paint, no stickers, no vinyl cutters, all hand cut. And TWO MR logos lol. Little flat clear on the outside here and there. Thanks for looking! Fits an FG 1/5 scale.

Painted this up today... I've been waiting years to get my hands on an F1, especially one in the 1/5th scale crowd. This one is painted up as Kimi Räikkönen's 2013 F1. Main color is pure black. Logos are mostly a nice gold pearl. Toss in a little red and white. The figure is painted up like Kimi. With a matching helmet. All sprayed in flat. Notice the carbon fiber steering wheel to boot! 100% hand cut and airbrushed as usual. This body goes along with the last one I sprayed, the 5t. Hope the customer is happy!

Been working on this body for awhile now.... as you can probably guess. Tried a new painting technique out and I really like the outcome. 100% painted as usual. No vinyl cutters. MR's custom charcoal here and there. A nice marbled orange. Other than that just white and black.

Onto the pictures.

I kick most of these bodies out in about 4-8 hours. From cutting the masking, painting, to peeling the protective film.
