Hi All.

I'm going large scale after a lifetime of smaller cars and I have a DBXL with some upgrades like shocks and some other parts but I want to use a powerful engine/pipe combo but worried I'm going to keep breaking things.

Because the car has been out for a while now I was wondering what you guys have learnt about the car regarding toughness and parts that must be changed?
How does the drive train hold up with the extra power etc

I do also have a chance of a stock 5ive T but really like the DBXL

Great forum BTW. Hours of reading so far.
Thanks guys.

from what I know and have read the 5 is better all round...period!....esp out the box.....but its way more £££to buy then a db......but me personally I hate the sc look in any scale rc.....and the 5 being the size it is imo looks stupid.......way to big......but that's jus my opinion..;)...I`ve only ran my brushless db a few times so cant really comment on it`s reliability.......but the drive line do look chunky enuff as do the stock plastics.......as for power..i know most drop the g32 in it.....I guess ur looking at the obv upgrades...all diff housings....centre shaft holder.......but I doubt u`d need everything ally.......

Thanks for the reply and tips.

The DBXL is a fun truck to drive.
Had mine a little over 2 years.

So far I've busted:
The chassis..(bent that, full speed head on crash with a wall that jumped in front of the car)
Front hinge pin braces bent(same crash)
Front hinge pins bent to hell (same crash)
Steering assembly trashed (same crash)
Front sway bar bent (same crash)
Front bumper destoryed (same crash)
Front top chassis brace (same crash, couldn't get a screw out of the steering post)

And just recently:
Stock clutch carrier
Stock pinion
Stock spur gear.
Carrier looks llike it melted...bearing may have seized???....Everything else was gonna burn after. Taking the thing apart this weekend to see what really happened.

I don't have a big engine in mine. I don't race, just bash.
Haven't experienced any issues with the pins, etc.... Diffs still holding up good too.

Upgrades I've done so far are:
29cc head kit
Pro-Spec CVD protectors (which broke... I've since made my own)
Turtle Racing engine brace
FFRC high flow feul lines
DDM throttle linkage
8k clutch spring
Shock piston replacement upgrade.
DDM stiifer shock springs.
Proline Trenchers.

As for durability? I'd say its durable so far. Things I've broke were my fault..bad driving, although my clutch carrier looks like it melted. I will be upgrading that now.

Necessary upgrades i would say are:
engine brace- its plastic and that is something i think you would want to be some kind of metal.
clutch carrier- cause i think i just melted mine..and i think that caused everything else in that area to break.

Other than that, upgrade as you break stuff, if you break stuff. For the 2 years I've had it, normal wear and tear, the plastic has held up pretty well so far...other than that carrier.
I don't have a big engine in mine and I don't race, I just bash.

I have a 5ive too.
The 5ive is a better vehicle out the box.

FYI, parts are NOT interchangeable between 5ive and DBXL, which has been a major complaint within the Losi community. Its a complete different truck, diffs, shafts, dog bones...

Thanks guys, interesting comments.
I know the 5ive is a better model out the box but I really like the look of the XL,maybe my heart is leading my head
on this but that's what I've chosen.
One other thing is the size of XL, it just fit's in my man cave better( den I think in the US in case your laughing at that comment :-) )
