The story:
I have been upgrading my 530 4wd with everything available for no reason at all. Recently I saw a video with a guy using a locked diff and decided I wanted to try it. I searched the forums for info and did not find what I was looking for.
So today I went ahead and pulled the trigger on this
Viscous Locking Differential Set - fg08604
only to later read on another suppliers website that is not suitable for 4wd.
So now I am confused. Can or can it not be used and why is in not suitable for 4wd?
This may be my first actual post so fingered crossed.
Cheers.

Fg's Viscous Differential will not work with the 4wd cars unless you modify the 42T front or rear plastic cogs gear, and there might be more to mod as well. The Viscous diff is a diff with 2 halves and it does not allow the plastic cogs to simply slide over like it would with the standard diff case.

If you want the ultimate diff set up for a 4wd car, consider,
- FG self-lock adjustable rear diff
- Oddified adjustable torque oneway slipper front diff

Is it this what you are referring to?

You can use the adjustable diff, but the sleeve, which allows for diff adjustment will be useless. If you can't use the sleeve you can't adjust the diff tension, so it simply becomes a diff with an aluminum housing.

I was referring to the following,
Aluminium Differential Self Lock 4WD - fg68407

Thanks buddy. I just ordered it. Not sure I understand what u mean about the Sleeve. To me it just looks like the normal covering with a hole drilled and a plug. I am sure if that’s the case I can improvise.

Thanks buddy for the response. I did view the oddified website but shipping would of been a drag in my end. I purchased the Fg 4 locking clutch and just tried to put it together before even scraping my original diff. Everything looks good however for the life of me I cannot get it to turn by hand when fully assembled. It does spin just before I install the last Teflon type washers. Also I reasembled it again without the metal shims and same thing.
Any help going forward would be apriciated.
Thanks.

I figured out a mor accurate way. What I did was take out the rear drive sleeves and inserted them into the diff by this I was able to have everything lined up. Hope this helps someone else.
Cheers.
