Here's what I'm thinking would be a good starting point for my step up to 1/5 scale vehicles.

All you folks with similar builds let me know if I should change anything before making this purchase.
I'm currently racing 1/8 buggy and truggy classes. Not that there is too much similarity here but just stating that I have experience with nitro engines and would like to change up to something I can run on pump gas and still have a blast with.
Thanks,
Pete

this is "only" my opinion.. by all means, mcd makes some pretty wild rigs. tho they have some weak points as any and all large scales, they are very well built. but the bottom line for me is the price.. i think they are just way over priced.. $2400.00?? come-on! there is just not enough there for 25 coins. and im talking in genaril. campared to other high end machines, like fg for starters. this is the baja comp. it comes with state of the art 4 wheel drive system(belt lays down on the chassis) all metal gears,4 wheel disc brakes and its all alum.!! ALL OF IT!! and you can up-grade to hydrolic disc brakes for 2 beans. http://www.fgsupply.com/product.cgi?group=95499&product=95690 and if you want an mt, well then heres this one. same thing with all the bling!! 4 wheel drive and disc brakes, plus all the aluminum.. absolutly stellar!! http://www.fgsupply.com/product.cgi?group=95512&product=95517 and if you wana race, this is the one that i would choose. this truck was built to race!! the guys at fg supply are killin'em at the track with this truck! http://www.fgsupply.com/product.cgi?group=95596&product=95597 .. this is just my thoughts. if i had 2500 to spend, wich i don't, as good as mcd is, "I" think there is more for the money else where..

Just out of curiosity, Does the FG baja comp 4wd buggy come with the motor? Or is it just for pics to show what it looks like fully loaded? It is a sharp looking machine though. Hadn't considered FG's at all. I assume all the buggy's come with disk brakes whether it be cable or hydro?
Thanks for your response,
Pete

 Wow that is steep, it is  1524.60 $ with out any thing , NO engine , NO exhaust , NO Air Filter  ….
The FG Baja , FG MT, And Hurricane /Titan/Gas Devil is less than 1250 $ and all come with engine and some RTR.:drool:

If you plan to race get an MCD Race Runner - look beyond the initial cost of the rolling chassis - these things do not need expensive upgrades. Replace the plastic gears with the optional MCD steel ones and install a high response clutch spring.

A stock/standard Sport version (no tuned pipe or steel gears etc) of the latest Race Runner won a round of the British Nationals a few months back and was even quicker than all of the more expensive european buggies (Hormanns, Elcons, Lauterbachers etc)!!!!

If you don't want to spend as much look at one of the 4WD buggies/trucks from Redcat or Smartech or even a (2WD) HPI Baja 5B.

I had that FG Baja car for a while and it was not bad, but I love the MCD. The only thing about the FG Baja is that little dude with the helmet. Why on earth they put him there, who knows... LOL...

He is punished for being knotty. LOL:lol::lol::lol:

Just get yourself a MCD, they are popular for a reason. I like mine. Bottom line is you get what you pay for.

Has any one mentioned the weight of the "new FG" just curious. I'll bet they are ALOT heavier than the MCD's.

Afgter seeing the FG 4x4's yes' they are nice, but I couldn't see myself owning one-although I like the fast that they come in kit form-somthing I wish MCD would do.

Brother just get the MCD .

THEY ARE BAD ASS MACHINES.

UNSTOPPABLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try to get a used one if you can .

go for the Gp 290 motor as well . 7000 spring is a must . Adjustable clutch rules.

Tracktor tires for the winter bashing as well.

There is very few buggies at any price that will give you so much pleasure in any weather as the MCD will.

All the best

Seems most of you prefer the MCD over anything else. That is what I was leaning towards.
A great thing about living in Alaska is that all residents get dividend checks annually from oil revenues. This is payed out in October and will pay for my new MCD 1000:w00t:
Looking forward to some winter time bashing!

Thanks for all the responses guys,
Pete

I have gears in my "cart" as well. It appears there is only two in the package? 23 and 26 teeth. Any other gears I should be looking at?

Thanks

I would get the 30 33 as well it will give you some more choices .

they are easy to change as well.

That thing is wild in the snow where you live.

get the tractor tires while at it.

fix the diffs with some super thick grease to lock them up a bit.

good luck.

Mcd

If you want you can get a trailer and pull your dog in it . !!!Hee Hee,

It is alot of $$$ for sure

Wish they were more affordable

MCD Factory is making great profit on these but not for long as more choices are coming out .

They will come down in price when they realize that there are others.

Still a good buggy for now .

SMOKES THE HPI ANYDAY

wickd6, go for it but be forewarned the MCD will spoil you and may ruin every other vehicle out there for you.
I came into the large scales from nitros as well and I enjoyed every step but took the long way to get to the ride I was looking for.

I recently picked one up but put a Zen 27 into it and it runs beautifully. I have not run it too hard yet but did some cornering to see how it felt.
Blown away might fall short of describing it. The turning radius is unbelieveable for a vehicle this big and heavy. It sticks when you want it to and yet you can break it for when you need to (or want to!!) do so.
You can really feel the results of the time MCD put into balancing out things on the chassis.
I actually feel like I am driving this rig, the quick response and feedback you get from the Baja is like nothing I have felt before in a large scale.

I used to feel that the MCD's were overpriced for what you got till I got to drive one.
Ordered mine the next day.

When I first saw these models I thought to myself, "I've gotta have one of those!" Seems like I stumbled onto the right vehicle. I am going to get mine in October since that's when I will have the funds available to purchase.
In the meantime I will continue to do my research and adjust my "wish list" with different goodies that I find will work better. I'm trying to set my self up for the "best" motor I can afford at the time also.
On a different note, I would like to get an unsilenced jetpro. But I see some folks like the samba. I am going for performance and of course sound. What's the general consensus in this area?

Thanks,
Pete
