Steve just get yourself a set of cable operated disks for the front, you will be amazed at how fast it stops.

replace them is the only way, the back brake is junk as it brakes the diff, if you have an open diff one wheel can spin forward and the other backward = not much brake at all. cables or hydros...I found hydros fr and rear easy to set up and provide awesome tunable stopping power.
Get a real powerful servo. Adjust the best you can. Add grubs int he plate as seen here: Gear Plate Mod
Thats about it besides adding the upgraded rear brake system which gives a slight more braking. The front brakes are a great way to go but can be spendy.
