Alloy uprights required for front brakes?

I was told that alloy uprights are NOT required for the fg front brakes. I started putting the brakes on my mt and the first thing the directions say is alloy uprights ARE REQUIRED to install? HELP?
 
Nah you don't need them. They work perfectly fine without them. I even run hydraulic brakes on plastic uprights without a problem.
 
Did you get the brakes made specifically for the MT? If so not sure how you will mount them without them hitting the front arms decreasing the turning radius.
 
Yes, they are for the MT. Got them mounted and working. To be honest they help a lot but it still doesn't stop as fast as I thought it would. I even upgraded to a super fast/powerful servo. Maybe its just the way I have hem adjusted? But they sure do look cool! :)
 
I would love to post some pics but I cant figure out how! :( If somebody would walk me though the process of posting pics I would love to post some!!!! And No, I did not sand the rotors, does that help??

Upload the pictures to tinypic.com or any other picture host then copy the link once uploaded copy the url from "Direct Link for Layouts". It will look something like this: http://i34.tinypic.com/24zivmf.jpg

To make that into a pictures you simply add
to the end of it. You will get what you see below

What servo are you using for brake? Is it a seperate servo just for the front brake or are you also braking the rear with it and throttle?

Not a bad servo, but it will be hard for a servo with 172 oz-in torque to brake both front a rear. Also, it will be much harder to adjust so both the front and rear brake fully on 1 servo. I have tried on 2 servos that are about 180 oz-in each and the wheels lock up. I have also tried on one 320 oz-in servo and it locked up the wheels as well.
 
You either need a 3 channel radio or use a Y split for a 2 channel.

1 servo is rear brake and throttle and 1 servo is front brake. Would be like this that I have on my FG Leopard:

You can do the same with any other, but you would have to relocate the receiver box. I am doing that on my FG Baja now.

Just as said. Use a Y connector that splits the 2nd channel to both the servos and the adjustment is done with the cables and servo horn.
OR
Take a 3 channel radio system and set the 3rd channel for the front brakes and adjust them from the radio to put as much force as you want. This way if you strain and burn up the servo its not on the throttle of the engine.
OR
You can run them both off one servo. The servo better have some major torque for the strain it will undertake.

You have to relocate the radio box and use the area its screwed to to mount the second servo.

I run a Hitec 5955 for my front cable brakes and stock rear, I can lock them up at anytime! It is a $125 dollar servo, but it is well worth the money. After all, it is a $1,000 truck, don't skimp on the electronics. I hate to see guys running 35 bucks worth of radio gear on a thousand dollar truck and wonder why they have glitching problems (run-a-ways are expensive). You get what you pay for.

yup i agree , why spend $1+k on a car/truck then put junk radio gear in ...
i run x2 hitec 5955 servo`s [ one for front brakes , one for rear brakes and throttle] a hitec 5745 steeering servo and a futaba 4pk radio.
 
I have the same steering servo, but the old lady has an 805 for steering in the Bummer (Monster Hummer), Her servo is stronger than mine. But at least I have metal gears...
