same here z, been following on and off , and yeh way over engineered, but the fella is an engineer if i remember right and its more of an engineering project and problem solving build rather than a straight out basher /rc build

Followed him for couple of years, it started out as an offroad buggy but changed direction. His engineering skills are spot, he is clueless about RC but loves building, hence this hybrid build. Mind his voice would send you to sleep lol
