Hey Guys,

I need some advice. I am looking for a donor roller to do a full RC Max build. Up here in Canada I am having a hard time finding a roller 2.0. Is it worth it to start with a 1.0 for a parts truck or wait it out till I find a 2.0?

Just trying to figure out what is in my best interest to start with, being all the dog bones, drive cups etc will be upgraded anyways.

Thanks in advance for the help!

How much are you looking to spend? My buddy in Toronto has 3 x 5ive-T 1.0 rollers for sale at the moment. I picked mine up off him a few months ago. 5ive rollers aren't super common regardless of the generation. That being said, you're way more likely to find a 1.0 roller than a 2.0. I haven't seen any 2.0 rollers around for sale. Not much has changed in the 2.0 from what I've read, just mainly upgraded A arms, redesigned center diff mounts and engine displacement increase.

I have a 1.0 on the line currently for $500.00. Just trying to figure out if it’s worth it. If your buddy has something inline with that shoot me a PM, would rather support people & friends involved in the forum if on par.

That price isn't bad. I've seen them go for as low as $400 for a bone stock. I think with the 5ive's, condition is everything. A lot of people collect these cars as shelf queens, so I wouldn't pay more than $400 for a beat up roller. My buddy's is in good shape, I believe he was asking $600. (that includes wheels/tires, cage/body, etc), everything minus the motor and servos. Just make sure the roller is complete. If you're missing bits, buying them from Losi could end up costing you more than you think. The good thing is if you don't mind using clone parts, Rovan/KM made a 5ive clone. If you need bits like cage pieces, throttle linkages, radio boxes, etc you can grab it from them pretty cheap.

From what I see or lack there of I was thinking it wasn’t too bad of a price. He had it listed for $800.00 for a couple of weeks, he just dropped it to 600.00 and I got him to $500.00.

I just don’t want to jump off the deep end being excited to get started and get in over my head! As for completeness I completely agree, all the little odds and ends add up quick and get expensive.

Must an fyi, I just built my 5ive t from everyone's left overs. There is a lot of comparability between the two. The bell, diff and center drive shafts are different. I have a lot of 2.0 parts on my 1.0. So as far as that you needn't worry too much.

I guess for more clarification, if I buy the 1.0 can I utilize the front and rear suspension sub assemblies, the raw diff’s and stick them in the RC Max chassis and upgrade it to a 2.0 economically as it has all the 2.0 mount locations? Or am totally flawed in thinking this is possible? I l’d like to keep as much redundancy between this rig and my current 2.0.

As I said before I have every intention in replacing the driveline from the beginning with phat dad bones and team chase axles, irc center mount diff carrier etc.

Thanks, SD73 I’ve read your build for research and a couple others.

BTW, were you talking to Tasrli (AKA Charlie)? I know he had ads up on Kijiji. Just curious if it was the same guy. As I've said, 5ive rollers aren't that common. If you are going to get it from him, I might be able to bring it over to you seeing as how I'm in the Niagara region quite often.

Yup, that’s him. Thanks for the offer! I’ll keep you posted on how this goes. +1 for the way the LSF family takes care of each other!

Like I said everything but the center diff mount and drive shafts are the same so you wouldnt be out much if you wanted to get just those parts for your rc max chassis as most seem to upgrade them at some point anyway. Cant see how it would be a big price jump to sell off the bits you don't want and get the stuff you do want. The shocks and diffs are what seem to bring the big money, everything else isnt too terrible to get new or used for reasonable amounts. I'd say its feasible to go that route.

Cool, we actually run our 1/5 together regularly in the summer. Baja's and MCD's.
Awesome, looking to meet some others in the area that actually run outside of actual racing. So far it’s just me and a buddy bashing these rigs around here that I know of. Only other guy we know at the hobby shop only races at tracks.

We are both pretty much noobs to 1/5 scale but we want to run more often than just scheduled races!
