Hey guys, looking for a pair of hump packs for my 2 MCD Baja's.Being that there are 3 Hitec 5745's in each of them I figured I would need good batteries so I can get a decent runtime out of them.It seems 5 cell 6V hump packs with a decent capacity are few and far between. What do you guys run for batteries and where did you get them and at what cost?I was actually considering assembling my own and found an ebay seller that sells 24 sub c 4500 mAh nimh cells that are tabbed for $60,any comments on this (good deal, bad deal)?I figure for under $100 I can have 4 assembled packs with 4 spare cells left over. The Ebay link to the cells is below.Thanks.

Will, I use the DDM 4500 6v battery. And it lasts for 1 to 1 ½ hoers.
I am happy with it. I think that is a god deal. 24 for 60$.

Hi Frank,

That is what I've always done myself. Sometimes even the race guys sell their matched packs for real cheap. Our buggies don't go through amperage the same way so you're fine with using them too.

There is a new technology being used in Europe kinda like lipos but lifo for short. Many races are using them now. Just as good as lipos but you can use regular chargers, don't blow up, you can put a nail through them and they still work, holds fulls voltage until the end, and have no memory. Right now only a 2 cell at 6.6V and around 2300mah is the highest you can get.

Nice eh!

I just bought another pack I use the ones from a Baja 5b, they fit in the compartment with my DX3R reciever.

DDM 42.00 4200 mah. 6v.

Well I guess its good to know that the pyramid shaped packs fit the MCD battery box.Problem is the stock Baja battery capacity is only 3000mAh. Remember,it's only supplying 1 large and 1 small servo.I'm looking for as much as possible to supply 3 large servos.I did find some 1.5V D cells that are 10,000mAh but are way too big for the battery box.Imagine 4 of them in series:2guns:.

Check these guys out...they use quality batteries and are great on pricing.

Definately cheaper than anything else I've seen.Still leaning toward building my own thus far as I'll get a greater bang for my buck.

Can I get away with running 6.6v without a regulator?Where can I get them and at what cost?Big run times? The reason I don't run LiPo's is because of the cost, the need to run regulators and having to monitor them so they don't drop below 6.6 v.

hey frank
"if" you choose to go that route and build your own packs could you make me one ? flat flat pack 5 cell too help offset some expense ? need another pack for my 72 cat :)

If I can get the guy to sell me 25 instead of 24 then absolutely.I need multiples of 5 so I can assemble you a pack as well.

Thanks for all the responses guys.

The lifo batterers sounds great.

The first link you have is for 1.5V "C" cell batteries which are physically larger than the sub C's and they don't have tabs. You can use them but you would have to come up with a way of mounting them up and you can only use 4 instead of 5.I figure if you're going to that trouble, you may as well use the "D" cells which are 10,000 mAh, and $14 for a 6V 3800mAh pack is like the deal of the century. They're great for the HPI Baja guys.

Oops, didn't even see that.

What the heck would 10000 do for you? Would it act more like a lipo in feeding more constant?:helpsmilie:

Greater run times. If I wanted a more constant flow of current,I could simply use regulators with a low voltage warning. I just got back from my local electronics wholesaler and although they couldn't help me with cells, they did have a huge selection of waterproof electronics boxes that could easily be adapted to replace the cramped battery boxes on these MCD's (or any other rig for that matter). They had untabbed 3900mAh sub c cells for $11 each:eek:.Makes 24 4500 mAh cells at $66 sound like a smokin deal.

Frank

so you'll have to configure the mcd battery in a X formation to fit correctly inside the box ?

Yep.Copy and paste the link below in your address bar and see.

Here's the message from a friend:

I found that the new type of batteries (next generation liPo, they sayhere LiFo) is the best at the moment for LS. It is a 2 cell battery.Output 6.6V which also stays at the same levele from start till end.You can hammer a nail through them and they keep working, connot explodelike the Lipos. Pricewise they are not to bad either. You could look at modellbau fuchs.Graupner just launched this battery as well.It is also called nanophosphate battery. You can again use a normal charger same as the NiMH.
Battery also has no memory. The capacity they have is still a bit low but for us LS boys sufficient.i believe the biggest one is now 2300mAH or so.Good thing for us racers is that you can charge them with 10A!So between heats you can charge real quickly when needed. But best of all is that the volt level stays the same.No messing with a limiter, less chance of troubles. We are running it now about 3 months with no problems.

Now for our applications a good 4000 and up pack works great. I use a 4600 in my Elcon Cleon at the moment and a 3300 matched in my airboat project.

well my old tonegawa050 needed a min of 1600 alone just for the one servo , your prolly not going to race enough with others that you need to shave off a few grams and worrie about it ..
