The good ol' oil debate  🤦‍♂️..

So I've been wanting to switch from the maxima castor 927 to a cleaner burning less deposit oil so I browsed through Motul's line up and I saw they offer a micro 2T oil specifically formulated for our engines. The oil is about $64 USD which is about double maxima but at this point I'm not liking the build up on the piston and I'd also like something that doesn't attract moisture when the rigs are being stored. The description also includes nitro and methanol miscible.

Here's the data sheet and the link to it.

Stay in school kid. I worked for the 64 bucks so I'll spend it on dumb things that I see worth wasting it on.

Also there is a significant difference with 2 strokes, we have air cooled which has larger tolerances due to uneven heating in the cylinder which can cause seizing and 2 stroke dirtbikes are water cooled and have tighter tolerances and guess what takes up the bigger tolerance the oil.

@misterleon I went back searching and saw you and a few others like motul which led me to their site. I also searched to see if anyone has used the specific micro formula so I figured id give it a go and since I'll be racing with you this year we can have a good comparison at the end of the season or whoevers engine blows up first 😉

I’ll blow my engine up first. I blow up a lot of engines🤣

Honestly my concern though would be that they are underestimating the needs for the rc engine. as a business I could see them over engineering something like a dirt bike oil using the best engine as reference and then taking any zenoah and using that as baseline for the rc oil. But it’s only money so I say give a go. I fully support this experiment

I run Motul 800, I’ve ran 15 litres through my engine and 90% of that has been flat out across open fields.
Once I get a 1/4 torque wrench I’ll take the head off and see how it’s looking.
It burns very clean, during the summer it never smoked at all and now at freezing temps it only smokes for about 3 or 4 minutes - pretty much when the exhaust gets too hot to touch.
Once I’ve used this oil up I’m gonna try motorex 2 stroke oil which is what I run in my dirtbike, only used Motul because I wasn’t at home to use motorex and I could get Motul at the dirtbike shop down the road

I switched from 927 to motul while back. When using 927 I also had tons of build up on the pistol after gallon or so. With motul I don't think I see any build up at all.

This is the one I use currently and works really good. But I do want to try the micro 2T also.

tbh i don’t think there can be a specific 2 stroke oil for rc engines… it’s just a smaller 2 stroke engine. if you don’t like the build-up from maxima try amsoil
also 64 bucks is crazy
If it's for a gallon that's not a bad price.

It's doubtful they are underestimating the needs for an rc 2 stroke engine vs any other high performance air cooled engine. Larger engines have the same requirements as an rc engine does. It would seem it's tailored more for glow engines then specifically a ringed 2 stroke. Either way as long as it's a low ash with a decent detergent package it will work fine.
