I just recieved my new Firehammer MT today and have run it already. I am still on my first break in tank and all seems to be good. I read in the manual about setting the ride height and it said the rear drive shafts should be parallel to the surface. It did not come set like this and by releasing the shocks tension does not make them parallel to the surface. Am I missing something in the translation? Also what is the flat T shaped tool used for that is provided? I have been reading these forums for awhile and have enjoyed all the tips and info that was provided that led me to the MT. I have owned the 1/6 Traxxis gas buggy and the Firehammer has impressed me considerably already compared to it. I will soon need a tuned pipe but I did not think about one costing nearly as much as a whole new engine. I have been out of the hobby for awhile and did not realize the price value of a good pipe. I hope to find a used pipe somewhere on the forums but if not, I will have to bite the bullet and go for it. This is my first post and will appreciate your responses. Thanks in advance. Boyd

Welcome Boyd! You bought a good vehicle and you'll find a ton of great info here in this Firehammer/xtm/Carson area. (take a look at user Slawhammer's thread to see what he has done with his)

1) I don't think mine are completely parallel to the surface. I'll have to look when I get home to see what is happening but adjusting the shocks should help, or at least are supposed to. You might post a pic if you can. Stock shocks suck really bad, they leak terribly so don't be disappointed when you see this happening. I have 5k diff fluid in the front of my shocks and 7k diff fluid in the rear. The stock stuff seemed to bouncy for my tastes.

2) Flat t-shaped tool is for the gas tank. You may have a new tank that doesn't require it but they probably continue to include it anyway!

Does your tank look like this?

3) A tuned pipe will wake up your engine. I would suggest this one:

http://www.davesmotors.com/s.nl/c.885035/n.1/it.A/id.1665/.f

It will give you a great amount of torque compared to your can muffler. Also, there is a thread out here somewhere that shows how to get a little more mmmphhh out of that can muffler.

Here it is: https://www.largescaleforums.com/showthread.php?t=819&highlight=exhaust+mod (Bigger the Better may have to repost some pics, his photobucket account has exceeded bandwidth)

You can find a great deal on ebay with the DDM pipes (LSF code at DDM will get you 5% off your entire order too).

Here is the top-end version of the pipe. I bid on ebay when I bought mine and ended up paying around 120/125.

Also, I strongly recommend a metal pinion. They are at http://www.innovativehobby.com/ but I can't seem to get the page to come up that has them.

Hopefully this helps. I'm sure there will be more responses in addition to mine!

hey Csp ..Thanks for mentioning my thread...Lot of great information there on the firehammer.....Ok the first 2 thins I would recommend 1.Good radio system..like a Futaba
3pm..Tower sell them for under $200 bucks...2 get a modified Pico engine Kill switch
DDM has them or from pb2themax in the market place....
I would not even drive the firehammer or any other Rc Unit with out the kill switch...
Cuz of a run away unit.....Hope this will help you out....
Ask questions..people will help if you ask in a nice way....

I forgot about the stock radio system sucking. Killswitch is great too! Running an out of control 20+ pound vehicle into something (like a human leg) could cause a lot of damage. (www.rckillswitch.com)

About a month or so ago, I had a full speed runaway of my HPI Baja in my neighborhood. Somehow through the grace of God, I just hit a bush at full speed. No damage to bush or Baja. I have killswitches on both vehicles now!

Thanks for the replys! CSP, my tank does not look like the one in the link. I have read about the tank leak issues. The CSM can muffller on e bay for around 30 bucks might be a quick upgrade from the stock can. They claim a mph increase but I can not find any links to anyone that has actually tried it. I finished off my first tank at work lunch break today and everything is still still running good. It actually is running extremely well to be using the rich oil mixture and when broken in and tuned, I think it will be better than I expected from the huge tires and a 23 engine. I am going to get a better charger at local hobby shop and finish break in before going crazy on upgrades, hopefully. I will build aluminum diff gaurds and possibly front and rear bumpers to personalize it for its' weekend cruisin. Boyd

I would gut the one you have and see how it does first, saves you thirty bucks because the CFM one is probably pretty much the same as a gutted exhaust. If you get it, put up some pics and let us know how it is. I haven't seen a report on one yet.

That's super that everything is running great so far. You probably already do this but check screws before your run it (engine mount screws on the bottom of the chassis) and obviously wheel nuts.

Great that we have another Firehammer MT'er aboard!

I have been doing poor man updates to my MT today. I cut out thin clear plastic differential covers to keep foreign objects out as someone has already posted. I then velcroed a 2 1/4 by 4 inch personalized Mississippi bike tag that came from Walmart to personalize it. It rests on the rear pan lip and velcroes to the plastic cover I added. I then made a cover for my pull starter to keep out grass, dirt, and whatever else that normally gets through the vents. I removed the pull starter first. Then I trimmed 1/4 inch strips of male Scotch velcro and applied it to the outside perimeter of the pull starter. I also trimmed and added velcro to the center cover. I then stretched black window air conditioner foam over it and the male velcro sticks and holds it. Then I trimmed it off flush with the back and reinstalled the pull starter. This is experimental and time will tell how well it works. If it does ok, it can be changed several times using a one dollar sheet of foam. My next update will be shock covers made from large bright colored party balloons. I have done this on other trucks and buggies and it has helped to keep dirt, mud, and grit off the shock shafts and actually looks good. Balloons are also good to protect receivers when being used around water also. This may be helpful to some or hilarious, whichever it may be, it was all done for fun anyway. Boyd

You know, the best upgrades are sometimes our own. I used one from Slawhammer in his thread. He has quite a few that are useful and cheap.

Here is one I did from Slawhammer's thread:
