I recently broke in the engine on my new Firehammer MT in a local parking lot. There was almost no traction with the stock tires. Unless I really babied the turns the truck would slide out. All the ground is snow covered so I have not been able to try it off road but I'm not optimistic these tires will do any better in dirt and grass. The rubber is too smooth and the treads are too small and far apart. Has anyone found these tires to be useful?

I have not been able to find many sources of replacement tires but what I did find are ridiculously priced. $250 for a set of four 7" tires!!! Sheesh, the rubber on one real car tire could probably make a hundred of these tires!! Ok, maybe only 50 or so :)

What does everyone do for tires? Any micro BFG AT's or Mickey Thompson's that don't cost as much as the real things?

The times I've run my FHMT tires on the pavement, yeah, I slid out. I now have FG Monsters but run across the same thing, but I don't wear them out like I do the FHMT tires.

Tires cost $$$. You can find deals on occasion. I bought a pretty much brand new set of FG Monster Truck tires for about 80 bucks. Otherwise, I think about 200 would have been the other price.

There is also these parts that would allow you to use HPI Baja or Redcat Rims and tires on your FHMT:

You can also check out Slawhammer's thread. He is going to use those adapters to put HPI rims and street tires on his FHMT. He's done a ton of mods that you might find interesting.

Regardless 60 bucks, plus about another 100 bucks for HPI baja rims/tires you are still looking at about 200 to get set up. You never know what someone might be selling in the marketplace here. The FG rubber monster tires are really kick ass. Hostile tires makes an All Terrain tread for the pavement/dirt/grass that run about 50 bucks a pair. These are specifically for HPI Baja, but would probably do everything you are looking for traction wise.
 
The Firehammer M/t tires work pretty well in grass and dirt... I can't think of any tires that will stick to cold tarmac/asphalt/cement... The FG M/T tires last for quite awhile, but they don't have much traction on any surface... Lots of spinning on about every surface when cold. They do grab pretty well on a warm surface though...

As far as a scaled down version of "Real" truck tires, there aren't many options... The Redcat Rampage has some pretty decent tires, but from what I have heard, they are pretty soft.

I think you will have more fun when it warms up outside...

I did run the FHMT this past weekend on a grass field. The handling was just fine!

Now I see that this sucker has a high center of gravity, it likes to flip and it doesn't land on its feet like my other trucks tend to do. I think wheel extensions may be in its future :)
