Why don't I see any big block motors listed as compatible with the dbxl? The largest motor I can find is the Taylor 35cc reed case. What if I want to go bigger?

because the size of them, the dbxl cage is too small in height & width :( the 35 reed just about fits but is VERY tight, infact its that tight the cup on the center CVD rubs against the reed billet fan case causing damage, happened to me & because of this the cup heated up & so the pin lost its studlock so came loose and totally destroyed the fan case, with replacement case i dremmeled about 2mm away off the area it hits and its ok now, I'm alsp using an MCD air filter which fits better than the stock with my 35 v2 Reed.

Apparently Taylor RC are working on a gas chassis for the dbxl 2.0, they've already released the electric version chassis, which is odd as I thought they would release the gas version chassis first seems as though there main product is engines! ..but anyway no date or info, or if it will support a bigbore, but like I say, even if it does forget running it with the cage/shell unless they release some kind of mod for the cage. But chances are it will just be the same as the stock chassis but stronger and wont support bigbores & to be honest the stock dbxl 2.0 chassis is solid so i wont be upgrading unless it supports bigbores.

But yeh, sucks bigtime that bigbores don't fit the dbxl 2.0 with major mods to the case/shell

It's because most big bore motors use a larger crank case which simply doesn't fit in a dbxl.
You could build or buy a "hybrid" motor.
Biggest hybrid I've built is a 56cc, 31mm rovan crank with 48mm top end. It requires a custom exhaust/header, but it otherwise bolts in where a 32cc would.

Even with a hybrid, the max height for an engine inside a dbxl 2.0 is about 200mm including spark plug. Biggest standard size engine is a 38cc. How tall are the hybrid engines you make? I was thinking about possibly a 43cc for my diddy.

The 43cc is the tallest one! A short rod 50-56cc piston port should fit wherever a 45cc does.
I'll have to take some measurements and more pictures for you later today.

A 45 won't fit inside a dbxl. Zenoah g320 is the biggest case that will fit. So whatever goes in a dbxl has to fit on top of that and can't be over 200mm including plug. Most people modify a 38cc to fit. 38 can be stretched to 41cc, most people just do the 39. I have not actually checked the height of a 43cc, but I follow Wade at SRE customs, and he made one on his channel and said how he made it. He used a crank with a 31mm stroke, and a 46 piston/cylinder. I may need someone with more experience to check my math, but with that stroke and a 46 cylinder, he cut the cylinder down to the height of a 38, and capped it with an ADA top. And he did it with a 32 case reed. If all that is true, it should fit inside a DBXL. He calls it a "small footprint 43"

Here's the video where he explains how he made it. He tell the recipe towards the end. (there a several run videos on his channel)

JFC... I know all about SRE, great guy, I've watched most of his videos.
The 43 is made WITH A 45 BOTTOM END. I have one sitting on my bench. It's tall. ~9"
Before you go telling people how it is, do your research. A 45cc will fit in a dbxl. The case is the same footprint as a 32cc.
My small foot print builds go all the way up to 62cc!

hmm, so what engine can i buy that will fit my dbxl 2.0 thats a big improvement over the small block Taylor V2 35 Reed? And where i can i purchase it!?

Cheers!

That's the best part, you have to build it!
I'm currently only porting/building for friends/family. I can't advertise any services here without a $400/yr vendor membership, and I don't currently have enough inventory.
I'm also still in the R&D phase trying to see what works best and is easiest to replicate.
I am testing/racing these engines along side a 35cc Taylor. Don't get me wrong, the Taylor screams, although so does an ESP ported 32-34cc.

yeh i had the ESP race ported 34 & then got the taylor 35 reed v2, have to be honest, cant really tell the different in terms of performance, certainly not £2-300 difference that it is between the 2!
