I'm planning to paint a few of my 1/5 polycarbonate car bodies and was wondering how many cans of spray paint is needed per vehicle if it's a single solid color? Cans comes in 100ml (3.4oz) and 4.5oz sizes. For 1/10 scale it says one 100ml can is enough to paint a body. Is two cans enough for a 1/5 scale?
  1. Buggy - Losi 5iveB - is 1 can enough since these are fairly small?
  2. Truck - Losi 5iveT
Thanks!

I know for a fact the tamiya cans are barely enough for a 1/10 body, and that’s if you don’t muck it up.
What colors are you wanting? I have had great results with the rustoleum 2x stuff on polycarbonate bodies. Just do light coats because it’s a very thick paint. Clean the panels as usual, scuff it with scotch brite pads as usual.
It has only flaked off when I didn’t back it up with a shoe goo type product, and it was all caused by an impact.

Brighter colors such as red, yellow, orange and blue. It would be great to be able to use a 12oz can instead. Can you explain backing it with shoe goo?

Have you heard of the reinforcement method using drywall tape and shoe goo? It beefs up the polycarbonate body and also makes a repair if needed. I put shoe goo or a similar product on the back side of the body after paint has dried and cured for reinforcement.
