Hello everyone,

I have had the Rampage XB since 2015 and haven't run it as often as I would have like to. That being said I work overseas and away a lot and when I come home, I like to bust out the toys. I have way too many expensive hobbies. I had the stock pipe break on my about 2 years ago and was looking for another stock one but man since they discontinued it has been a pain in the butt. I ordered a Jetpro rear mount, and it is very nice. It got here this past week. Anyway, I have never had an issue with it running away on me until yesterday. It ran from me bad and was fortunate enough to love tap a small tree and bent the front lower bulkhead and then it went into weeds where it stopped fully. The XB has been a solid car every time I have run it. It has been sitting for about 2 years before Yesterday.

I have the Killer B Rc switch. I need to install it. I am running a Spektrum DX5 controller and receiver set. I am using the stock Redcat servos. I am thinking of upgrading the servo's trying to eliminate the electronics being an issue. I am still using the stock redcat hump battery. Should I look into replacing it also? It still works well; it is just old.

I also upgraded the carb a few years ago with one from DDM. I will have to look and see which one I got. Hopefully it is in my email.

I know the book says to run 30:1 with 90-93. I have a LT500R zilla and I run 110 at 32:1 and used that fuel yesterday. Could that high of octane also cause an issue with it wanting to run away.

Like I said I am getting back into the hobby and love the xb and man it sucks they discontinued it. I want to keep running it but with parts being limited now kinda has me on the fence on keeping it. I also have an upgraded Nitro Rustler with the Traxxas 3.3 in it. I have had that RC since 2000 and it started off as a nitro sport and I upconverted it to a rustler.

I enjoy the Hobby immensely ever since my first Brand newTyco heads up turbo hopper from way back in the day when I was a kid.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Welcome back. It Shouldn’t cause a runaway. Since you haven’t used it in while, I would check your receiver battery. It may take a charge but might not have enough power for the servos amp draw. That would cause your receiver to blown out. Next would be make sure you receiver is has good range by doing a range check with the rig not running. Also 110 octane isn’t really good or needed for an engine not built for it. I run non ethanol fuel 97 and less. Currently trying non ethanol pump fuel with good results. I use Amsoil dominator oil at 28-1.

Yes I know the 110 without being built isnt the best but, it is what I have on hand immediately when I went to run it. I run Klotz super techniplate at 32:1 in zilla so figured it wouldnt hurt for one tank. I didnt even make it through that tank though. I was figuring possible the battery, I turned it on yesterday and functioned the throttle and notice that the servo even with the brake side depressed it gives throttle. Very weird. I will be checking the adjustments on the transmitter and see what is going on there.

Looking at servo's and have to get new front lower arms, one is cracked and one is bent. A front dif drive cup set, the R/H drive cup snapped. Cups on backorder everywhere. Might just see if a whole new diff is available and just fully replace it. Keep the old one as a spare and see if I can get the drive cup at a later date.

Just quick 110 is probably not the best that octane is a little on the high side. but like CCPM mentioned it should have nothing to do with a run-away. Watch the oil ratio 32:1 might be a little light on the oil. Another vote for Dominator but not looking for another oil debate.

Sounds to me like a battery/servo electronics issue.

I am definitely leaning on a servo issue for sure. Noticing everything is on back order too. I need both lower front a-arms, the diff cups. I was able to straighten out the low front aluminum suspension pin bracket to hold the A-arm pins in. That is also on backorder. I am wondering if the Diff comes all as one assembly. Does anyone know or have a part number for it as one completely assembled?

Update: Finally, almost a year later. Got sent home from overseas doing remote work while the whole Iran thing is going on. Figured it would be time to get into the issue with the XB. I ended up getting a new throttle servo that works with the stock pack. Figured out the original servo was bad after I swapped channels with the servos. Original servo was completely toast. I also had a DSMR SRS6000 receiver and reading about it causing issues with the kill switches, I ended up going with the SR515 and the kill switch works properly. Servo function is great now.

I was able to get it to fire up but just briefly and now it doesn't want to start. It is getting fuel and spark. The plug is wet when I pull it. I was trying to start it on full choke and did some more reading about only doing half choke. Also fresh fuel 25:1 with Dominator oil.

With the kill switch installed and on I do get spark.

Next steps I am going to try:

Regap spark plug

Check coil gap

Might have been just flooded and I reset the HS to 1.5 turns and LS to 1.25

Modification I have are as follows:

Walbro 1107

Jet-pro rear exit pipe

7075 RC transmission plate

Spektrum receiver and Hexfly 25 kg for throttle servo.

Hopefully I can get if fired up and running good. Michigan weather in my area has been really crappy until this week. I think the 3rd Michigan winter is finally over and getting into some summer temps.
