Hi everyone, first thread here but I 've been in the rc hobby for more than 40 years, starting with tamiya electric kits in th 90's, following with combustion engines in 1/10, racing in 1/8 onroads , following with small 1/28 miniz and 1/18 Hpi micro rs4, then 1/10 and 1/10 formula, rc crawlers etc.. my first 1/5 scale was RS5 Modellsport Touring full carbon fiber chasis with the petrol 25cc engine, but my passion with electric rc cars made me want to modify it to brushless motor( this was like 15 years ago) and in that time almost no one selling brushless convertion kits, so after all this years finally i found a perfect car for brushless conversion.
One of my first observation about the MCD XR5 brushless conversion kit is that the weight distribution isnt that right( i can undertand that the main design was always based for the petrol engines) but after long nights of researchs i cold figured out in my mind how to relocate the brushless motor and the batteries for better weight distribution..( i couldnt find anything on google but searching and looking videos on youutube one french guy comment about turning the engine forward and relocate the center diff..) so at the beginning, relocating the center diff means shorter front and rear center shafts, means maybe using the short chasis center shafts will works, but at the end, luckily the ones from the car works perfectly.
Second observation: motor mounts. Both engine mounts that come with the brushless conversion kit had to be modified.. also designed/relocated the new battery holders, servo tray, receiver comparment everything had to be modify, I also redesign a battery connector box where I relocated/hided all the wirings to keep it clean and no loose wires around... for the hydrax brakes i kept the original mounts( yes, i didnt modify it
) but printed some brackets to re-route the hidraulic lines(never liked the zip ties from factory) and etc.. so after long nights drawing and testing templates, it was time to begin the challenge, start drilling some holes(I honesty lost the count on how many HOLES i had to made to finish this project) ... so i didnt take pictures at the beginning, but the next picture made me think that maybe I have serius TOC problems...
