Hi!

I was trying to remove my diff bearings from my aluminium differential today but it was impossible. They are really stuck. Any tip on how to remove them from the differential?

I have also a question on how to get the diff bearings into my newly bought aluiminum diffmounts? Before, when I had the plastic ones, I just pushed the bearing in but with the aluminium ones it is impossibe.

Gratefull for help :innocent:

For getting them off:
Try using a small flat screw driver or such and go around twisting the end under the entire bearing only putting pressure on the center of the bearing so not to do damage to it.
Others may have a better way but, that works for me. You can't get them to just pop off aluminum the need to be teetered off.
If they are the stock bearings that came with the case and were installed by FG they may have used locktight and it will need to be slightly heated.

To get them on. Some freeze the bearings, then install them in the warm aluminum part.
I heat the aluminum part then press them in by using a bearing press or by setting the heated part on a wood block then tapping the bearing in the piece with a rubber mallet. Then take another wood block and set it on top of the bearing and tap the bearing in by either teetering it in or it just pops in.

Take your time and they will go in. When you heat an item it expands allowing a greater space. Freezing them contracts the piece doing the opposite slight.

For some reason I cant think of it any differently then how I said it.

Heating the bearing will screw it up too your right. I replaced my stocks with TFE bearings.

Thanks Bigger the Better :) I did try to remove them with a screwdriver but they were impossible to move :) Maybe I have to try and heat it up a bit like you suggested.

I heat up the bearings...I made a small puller from a battery terminal puller..
I reshaped the claws...I put a small socket that has a shoulder on it..put in the drive hole and hook up the arms..
then turn the handle to screw down the big worm screw...the bearings pop right off..
It is best to heat the bearings..I use a small pen torch....Slawhammer
