I have been given the task of buying and installing a new bore up on my friends Baja. Of course if this was my money I would go with another 27.2 ported kit but its not and the last bore up I did for his kid was as cheap as I could make it and that was to give him a 29cc motor for low $ upgrade.
He likes the power that the 29cc shows him compared to his stock 26cc in his SS. The 29 also revs higher then his stock 26.
He will be trying to install the 5T stock can to get a bit more exhaust but still keep it quiet. I know he will never get the full performance out of it without a tuned pipe but its the noise thing for him.

What are your ideas to keep it low dollar and get him the best bang for his buck and for me not to regret making the decision for him.

Here are a couple I was thinking of. Do you need to upgrade the crank on a CY when boring up on most top ends?

27.2 ESP Standard
Oniell's ported 27.2
RP 290 (do I need a crank if installing this one?)

Thanks motor heads!

Hey Bigger..For the money I would go with O"neil kitThe kit is a good price..but you have to also buy a 2 mm crank .
But it is ported...
DDM's kit is also a good price
The 3rd choice also...You will have to buy a 2mm crank for all 3 kits......Slawhammer
Ps I reread ddm's add for this twice..you have to get a crank also...there is a note added...

get him another 28.5 kit and call it done. cheap and he liked it. add an oneill bros bolt on reed kit for a little more poop and ease of install for yourself ;)

or maybe a silenced version pipe? btb you are like the bible here and asking for help? most of us are just apostles (ya it's sunday, couldn't resist)

So I need a crank for the GP290 head kit too?

I take it the only one you don't need a crank for would be the 29cc head kit?

Thanks.

Hey Bigger..The way I read DDM'S ad for the G290 if you use the stock 28mm crank
it will give you 28.5CC..I would say for that money spent is a good buy with out buying
a crank......To be correct e-mail...Brad on this....Slawhammer

I called DDM said with the g290 ported kit I had you used the stock crank. I bought that one for him. Will keep an update on the change in performance.

i have the oneils ported 27.2 that you have linked. it comes with the 2mm stuffed stroker($149). and it fly's!! i have it in my "pink" rampage on-road. it has pretty good torque with the stuffed crank and out revs the rest of my motors. i have 2 other motors. a ported 26.9(truggy) and a ported 28.5(mt). the zenoah is the only one i would buy again. put a lightened flywheel on it for $39 and it will spool up even faster..

His parts came in and 2 hours later the motor was torn completely down, a learning lesson was taught, and its all back together.
I will say I was thinking about just replacing the top end as that is what he wanted. I ordered the parts and was ready to wait and then thought heck with it. I called DDM got the case gasket, oil seals, and bearings.
After inspection the top end wear was caused by a faulty large oil seal that let dust in and effect the bearing. It also let fine crap into the head effecting it just enough to see scratching and loss of performance.
After all is set, cleaned and installed it purred like a kitten well more like a tiger. He has broke it in and the rest will be history.

I will ALWAYS buy oil seals, case gasket, and bearings on all tear downs from now on.

I know why slaw keeps experimenting. I forgot how fun and rewarding it is to tear a motor down and rebuild.:D

Good to hear all went well for the young lad...Yup I love to do a rebuild..Take all apart
install new parts put back together..fire it up..great joy in that..Ya say hey I built that
engine you hear there.....Slawhammer
