fg mt shocks whats to go ? whats the good upgrade shocks ? and whats people general thoughts on them ?

im thinking of these LAUTERBACHER Super-Cross shock absorber kit

I haven`t tried any other shocks but people who use aluminium shocks instead of the original seems to be very happy with the upgrade. In most cases the alu shocks are very expensive but these ones are used by some (Super 654 for example) and seems to be good in relation to the price:

Another thing that some do is that they by more expensive ones and only use 4 instead of 8.

I think that the stock shocks aren`t that bad actually. If you change the oil to a much thinner one and then stiffen them up by adding one extra adjusting clip to each shock, then they get pretty decent. They do tend to leak after a while but this can be eliminated by the use of shock socks (badhorsie for example)

I have the stock fg mt shocks on my on road semi and they work great. Big volume. The aluminum ones on my car are nice but have nowhere near the oil volume

I have the stock 8 on mt MT and have had no problems with them. Now my Firehammers are another story. The adjustable FG's are said to be good but I have never seen them in person?

works out around $300 aud for 8 including shipping then i just have to by springs, so around $400 aud not bad but i have used gmp gear its ok but not as good as some, if its the same as the gpm parts for the savage and the hpi baja.

the fg shocks for 8 works out $400 aud not shipped but from australia so shipping would be cheap, but then the ball ends are plastic and i still have to by springs and oil so it blows out to near on 500 aud.

where the LAUTERBACHER Super-Cross shock absorber kit has all 8 shocks, and it fully complet i don't need springs and what not. and works out around $445 aud shipped and im sure i can get them a bit cheaper.

i don't mind buying all 8 shocks as im going all out and building an all alloy 2wd fg mt, its worked out more then a 4wd comp 4wd fg mt, cause i want to do itt he hard way and didnt want 4wd, and since the adjustable camber front end and alloy shock mounts are suited for 2 shocks each side and so are my rear ally arms its all good, i might as well spen the extra and fully deck it out.

Hey Ben, the GMP shocks are good, come with oil and you can fit your old springs for now...
I have gone the same route as you , the hard way , but i too want an all alloy 2wd, check out my thread to see my progress (Supers FGMT)

Mine don't stick anymore for some reason, maybe they were just bedding in as they were factory filled and i still hav'nt touched them...all good.....

Shane is that you building a new MT???

If it is good to see you back with an FG mate. I look foward to watching this build.

Ive run 10 litres through my MT now and the stock shocks are holidng up fine.

I might pull them down soon and check the oil and seals.
