I've a 2WD FG MT I've been steadily upgrading.
Do any of you have opinions regarding favourite clutches?
Am I better simply staying with the stock Zenoah 2-shoe clutch, same / similar to the CY in the Baja 5B?
Should I simply change to the 8k spring, stressing the transmission a little, but for a bit more fun on take-off?
Should I go for a multiple shoe effort?
Hobbythek list quite a few different ones, adjustable as well.
I have a 'Tuning' clutch bell, and some are 'adjustable without removing the bell if you have the Tuning bell'.
There's the FG 4-shoe, there's a Lauterbacher, and Hobbythek seem to push the Contrast - is this any good? Can it be adjusted without removing the clutch bell?
I see there are a 'few options' on Fleabay, but I've been stung there a couple of times before. I want something up-to-date, so am willing to go for new.

I've had nothing but luck with my stocker. I did change out to the HPI red spring and spun the shoes in reverse and its now fun to rev a bit before take off.
 
Keep the stocker for a while and save some money. The red spring is definitely worth it IMO..
I've owned the $100+ Elcon clutch and its great and all, but for what i do the stocker is more than enough. That and i have quite a few spares sitting around. LOL

ive been wondering the same. I took the clutch bell off my FG MT to change it to a red one and noticed the stock one is thicker that the 8K! so I didnt bother changing it.

I have seen a couple of 3 shoe and 4 shoe tuning clutches on CFR, very expensive and was wondering if its worth it for me?

I mainly have fun at a bmx track or a gravel track somewhere, never race but love doing wheelies.

I cant work out weather its worth while to upgrade my clutch
 
I've been using the stock shoes with the HPI Red 8000RPM spring. so far everything seem fine. I tend to stay away from Blings.
I might even reverse my clutch for a forward bite instead of the drag bite.
 
I admit I was a bit confused when BtB mentioned 'reversing the clutch' but now I understand.
I suppose you put the 8k spring on and then WHAM !!
How do clutch bells hold out doing this?
I've a FG hardened 'Tuning' vented bell, which should be very strong as they say ... ... ??

atom i use oddie 4 shoe in my marder and i have the same in the

unrun Leopard :blush:....they don't come any better :clown::clown:

but the standard clutch is really good as it is even with the black spring

I believe when you reverse the shoes it allows them to bite a bit sooner then what the spring is rated. The advantage is the bite is better.;)

I'll pass for now and 'continue enquiries'.
My standard clutch is catching slightly somewhere. Bought it relatively cheap 'brand new' (it was sealed) off Fleabay. Fitted perfectly.
Maybe sign of things to come.
My options were;
Replace old one - plenty of 'meat' and working perfectly.
Check 'new' one for why it's happening - fitted when completed the alloy upgrade.
Buy and fit option clutch.
I'll check the 'new' one for now, when I get back to Blighty.

You're recommending the Oddie (or the standard), but when I read the other threads, you never run your trucks!! :clown:
How do you know it's a good clutch? :clown::no::clown:
Only joking. You'll allow a photo of a bit of mud on your trucks one day, I'm sure!! :clown:

Come on Trebor, you must have some petrol in the veins!
Me, even if the weather's grim, I have to open a window and fire up the beast, if it hasn't run for a few days!! (Only a minute - I suppose you can call it FG glue sniffing!!)
What smoke alarm? !!
