Anyone have any preferance for going with Mechanical tunning brakes vs. Hydraulic brakes?
I have mechanicals on my truck and I just wanted to know if it really makes a difference for those who have hydraulics?

If anyone has any close up pictures of their brake set ups, please post

Mike

but how better are they in terms of functionality to justify the cost?

Also, what are the maintainance issues that you deal with when you have hydros? Do you need to do anything once you set them up or do u set it and forget it?

Cables should be good enough for bashing if they are set up right. Also the cables are only as good as your servo. More torque = more stopping power :cool2:

i don't know if I want to "Bash" yet..lol I put in way too much $$$ in my truck to bash it.

i have 2 Hitech 7955 servos for brake power. Should be enough...what do u think?

They are more than capable for cables. You need a minimum 7-8kg/cm and you got 18-20kg/cm in each of your 7955's :cool2:

I had 'standard' cable brakes on the front of my FG MT when I bought it, and now have KPD hydro brakes. I needed to work on one of the calipers of the cable brakes, so went hydro.
To be honest ... a LITTLE BIT better. Definitely pulls up well.
They are more work installing, bleeding, etc., but as much as anything, whenever anyone stops and looks, then looks again - hydraulic brakes? !! ... :clown:

so basically i get the vibe that if u got strong enough servos and cable tunning brakes, then u have just as much stopping power then hydros. However with hydros...u have braggin rights =)

How much are your hydros? Link?
How do you bleed the brakes? Do u have pix please?

Easiest just to look at some of the manufacturers' sites.
Hobbythek have a few.
Fleabay is often selling a few sets, BUT BE CAREFUL, most of these are OLD SETS, possibly as the owner wants to replace his with new ones.
Check out KP Designs as well as Hobbythek.
Some have dual piston, which MIGHT be worth the extra $$$.
Bleeding? Easy (honest!!!!). Top up the master, have a syringe and tube to pressurise it, with servo in rest / zero position, lift up the truck so that the caliper being bled IS THE HIGHEST POINT, and pump away - bit like a car, then close when only fluid coming out. Same for the other side.
Yes, it IS NOT that easy. It's a 15kg truck, not a 1.5kg Tamiya one!!
Worth it in the end :clown::clown::clown::clown::clown:

the last person to show up at a bash session with hydros had his car sitting a while. and h had only 1 brake working and needed to bleed them all. I had a braske pulling to one side, and loosened a screw, adjusted it right there and kept driving... nothing wrong with cable brakes IMO

Simple solutions are often the best :cool2: Mountain bikes use the same principle with discs & cables & they can stop a FB like me :clown::clown: so they work providing they are set up right

Now if you want to go a step higher..... air brakes by Elcon. They work the best. 360 degree braking along the disc. :cool2::cool2:

For your use the cables are fine, I use them on my FG 4WD. I used KP Design Hydros on my Lauterbacher Supercross when I had it.

have you thought about tps hydo layshaft brake loads of stoping power not badly priced looks the nuts it only has one brake to bleed ect not in the way i use this set up with cable front brakes all powered by a savox 20kg servo loads of stoping power but would love the fronts hydo as well but just for the look as i have mine set to brake more from the rear to help slide it into corners a bit

The issue with this rear brake system is that you still get the spinning effect. You still need some sort of front brakes.
