You should be able to get a 12v compressor for a lot less that will do the job. I have a rechargeable jump start pack with compressor that is more than capable. I paid £65 from Halfords. Might be worth looking in to

ya 60 psi will do a pretty decent job.

what i do is spray the car over in WD 40. let it sunbathe to warm up and loosen the crude, and hit it with about 100 psi. just doint blow to much air at the Air Filter itself. don't want to DRIVE The dirt INTO it.

michael :nono:forget the B&Q one....it doesn't really matter the pressure

of the compressor its how much air it delivers (CFM) combined with

the pressure .....its no use having 110psi that lasts for 5seconds

as the B&Q one will be.....look out for this one thats on offer

from Aldi every now and again ...with a 3 year warranty

and comes with accessory kit worth the price of the compressor alone

i have had one of these for the past 4 years...mine is yellow

link below to explain CFM (cubic feet per min) and a link to the compressor

are they worth it ?? do u still have to take the tanke and wipe it over with the cloth and paint brush ??and do u have to do any think to keep them working and my work bentch is my loft can i use it up there?

It is powered from standard plug socket so no worries there. Any compressor is quite noisy but unless you have awkward neighbours it shouldnt be an issue.
You will still have to wipe your KM over by hand if you want it pristine like keith's ;)

Yes mate, accessory pack(I only use the blow gun and tyre inflator) I got the grey tank on mine. £50! you cant go wrong;)
My mate ,Jason got one too but he didnt keep an eye on the oil level and ended up seizing it.A block of wood and a hammer and 15 mins later, all working as normal.

a good compressor does lots more than just clean bodies. you can airbrush with it, clean out your real auto, fill tires, etc. I have a dewalt. does 150 psi, I clean at 100 (autos too) and with 6.5 cfm can run many tools and lots of available pressure. I high psi pump turns the pump on sooner. if you have a small tank then you want a setup that kicks in sooner. a 110 psi max compressor doesn't kick on until about 80 or 90 maybe. my 150 psi kicks on at 120 so it's refilling the used air sooner to keep the pressure longer.

I use air in auto detailing a ton and well worth having a good compressor. I have abused this dewalt for close to 4 yrs and never had to top the oil even, probably more use than most people as it'll run a good 8-10 hrs a week easy
